Ruben Guerrero, father and trainer of former champion Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero (32-2-1, 18KOs), told BoxingScene.com that if Showtime/Golden Boy Promotions put the right money on the table, they are ready to face WBA interim-champion Keith "One Time" Thurman (23-0, 21KOs).
On Saturday night, Guererro returned after lengthy layoff and traded leather with Yoshihiro Kamegai in a 'Fight of The Year' candidate. With a badly swollen left eye, Guerrero fought his way to a twelve round unanimous decision win.
"If they give Robert the right offer, he'll fight anybody. Thurman is a good fighter, but he doesn't have his name yet. A lot of people still don't know him. He can't sell any tickets. If Showtime and Golden Boy want that fight and they give Robert a real good offer, then bring on Thurman. We're not scared of anyone. But I don't think they really want to make that fight because the last time the offer wasn't good. If the offer is good, Robert will fight anybody. Look at what he did with Kamegai. Robert always wants to make the best fights for the fans," Ruben told BoxingScene.com.
One fight Ruben would love for his son is a showdown with Amir Khan (29-3, 19KOs), but he doesn't believe the British star want the fight.
"That guy has British baby nuts. Golden Boy tried to make the fight three times and he turned it down. He doesn't want any part of Robert. They offered him good money and he still turned it down. Khan is just a guy who has baby nuts. He won't even fight Robert for good money. I don't think he'll ever fight Robert because he knows Robert would knock him out," Ruben said.
