they arent scared of anyone but still I dont like this move by his handlers or by anyone else for that matter. really, if you cant make weight, there isnt any point in holding on to those titles. yeah, I know it brings some marketability, but you dont get ready for WWs by fighting JWWs 2 lbs over the limit. so I agree with you that they may have well gotten a low/unranked WW if they were gonna fool around with an unranked JWW

This has nothing to do with getting ready for 147. This is all about fighting a tuneup in a meaningless fight. The organizations won't sanction the bout anyway, so why bother going through the grind of making 140? This is very common in boxing

I'm gonna use an example using the most popular fighter in boxing. Although different a different scenario, the intentions are the same.

Mayweather himself did this. He was the WBC Champ at 130. He fought Augustus in a tuneup in a non title fight at 135 (before the Corrales fight), then immediately went back down to his weight class. The difference there though is that he fought Augustus at a completely different weight class, as opposed to CW . The intentions are still the same. You get a tuneup in a meaningless fight without having to go through the grind of making weight. It's not like the WBC would have sanctioned a bout against Augustus, a guy that had a lot of losses anyway, so why bother fighting at 130.

I just think it's silly for anyone to believe that Garcia is preparing for 147 by having a catchweight fight at 142. They are just trying to get a fight in. He'll most likely be at 140 in his very next fight

I understand where your coming from. Your basically saying nygga pick a weight class

Doesn't floyd need to co promote with gbp if he fights golden boy fighters?
Indeed that is true..but as floyd is linked to al haynon, and Al has signed some management deal with these fighters, who will fight on what promotion in the future? For example, amir has signed a management deal with Al but is fighting on goldenboy, i hope they Floyd/Al and goldenboy will continue to work along with eachother.

Another thing I want to add is if your a world class fighter in this era, there shouldn't be tuneups unless you got knocked out (or beat down) in your prior fight. That tuneup shyt is over. You only fight once or twice a year. It's a waste of the fight. If a guy like Victor Ortiz came back & had a tuneup, I think we can all agree that would be fine.

If these guys where fighting 4-5 times a year, a tuneup is perfectly fine. The reality is those days are over.

I also believe this 1-2 times a year shyt hurts the quality of the product, because these guys aren't active, but these nyggas just have to make sure their training camp is on point to deal with the inactivity.

I do prefer the 4-5 fights a year era. Sometimes I feel like I'm watching fighters work the rust off

exactly. he isnt getting ready for 147 by doing this, nor his he attempting to. I was just saying that to anyone thinking he may be. the Augustus fight was an example of what I meant. its just not a good idea to fukk around with your weight. and its not a disciplined approach to say well since its a non title fight, lemme NOT try and get down to 140. this is playing with fire. you settle in at a weight and get comfortable. my other point is.....by NOT making 140 this time....just because its non-title, it may be even harder for him to make 140 next fight or at least not show any ill effects from it. lets say he was badly affected by weight against Herrera, then he needs not return to 140 at all for risk of losing to a no-name. this isnt helping his career by holding on to those belts. he needs to fight at a weight he is most comfortable at. his dad needs to put his foot down on this shyt.

no, he can make weight...but its harder for him to do so now. he soon will have to kill himself if he is not already. this is about holding on to those belts...which I think is a bad idea that can backfire. either he gets a top notch nutritionist and makes 140 easily or throw that chit in the bushes. its career suicide should he lose his belts on the scale then lose or draw in the ring the same night. he is not Joan Guzman, but still, his team needs to be careful playing around with weight just for the sake of some belts. he is already the "undisputed" champ at 140. he dont need those belts.

is that what the surprise is? Floyd fighting manny under his own promo company?

I am not saying that, but I think the fight is much easier to leverage then, plus Floyd gets to make about the same percentage and gross even more than his last few fights. really, Bob wants it. all Manny has to do is agree to the testing this time and I think we have a fight.

excellent post...pretty much your post is part of the reason why I thought superman was fighter of the year for 2013...dude was really active and won a couple of the fights that he wasn't the favorite to win
