3 men have dominated the division in a 40 year span without no real threats or MW nemesis, in Hagler, Bhop and Sergio, and Sergio was a bum ass nikka...................
this is true. as much as I respect BHop and know that his 20 defenses are nothing to sneeze at...the closest thing he had to nemesis' was Echols and Allen. the best natural MWs he faced were Mercado and a green Glen Johnson. the best names he beat were Brown, Trinidad and Oscar....guys who had not too long came from WW. he had solid wins against Holmes, Joppy and Eastman but those were B level fighters at best.
but just think, some of those defenses came against Syd Vanderpool who Lacy stopped, Carl Daniels another jmw, and Morrade Hakkar
Hagler actually dominated some good opposition, it wasnt a golden era of fighters he was facing but much better than any other MW champion since Monzon.
Sergio was really a place holder. in the right place at the right time. had PWill gotten to Pavlik first, Sergio may have never become a star and history as we know it could be dramatically different.
GGG, if he has the goods, he has the chance to prove it. but not by fighting the likes of Geale. Geale really aint shyt if you wanna get technical. he beat a couple of decent fighters. we think higher of guys sometimes because they are solid all around or durable.
TCraw just beat Gamboa, but all you nikkas harp on is how little Gamboa is. but even though Crawford was favored against Burns and Gamboa, there wasnt any certainty he would win. Likewise with Swift against Matthysee. In fact, Swift was the underdog. I aint gonna say Broner bit off more than he could chew against Maidana but he just wasnt taking him serious enough. even though he was a big favorite.....people questioned how well he would take Maidana's punch.
there are many more examples but those are recent. no one thought Geale was gonna beat GGG.
my point is, GGG may be a great in the making but he will never get there if he doesnt face guys that people think can beat him. I know, I know....bu bu but Floyd dont either. Floyd done kicked so much ass over 16 plus years...he gets a pass.
if these dudes aint steppin up to fight real threats to them then it aint no use in following the hype. if GGG cant get Cotto for starters then he needs to truly clean out that division and seek out JCCjr or Ward. unless he wants to be another BHop and I dont think he wants to stay in a division for years fighting mediocre name after name.
