Boxing champ Terence Crawford taken into police custody over fight disturbance
Police say Crawford has not been arrested or cited
OMAHA, Neb. —
World champion boxer Terence “Bud” Crawford was taken into Omaha police custody Tuesday after a disturbance outside a clothing store.
An employee of Citi Trends, which is located near Forest Lawn Avenue and North 33rd Street, told KETV NewsWatch 7 that two women came to the store around 10 a.m. looking to fight.
After telling the women that her work shift ended in the evening, the employee said the two left. A different woman returned to the store around 1 p.m. The employee told KETV NewsWatch 7 that she clocked out and met the woman in the parking lot, where a fight broke out.
Several cars pulled up, and Crawford was riding in one of them, the employee said.
Witnesses tell KETV NewsWatch 7 that Crawford became involved in the dispute, then left.
A witness says police stopped him several blocks away, taking him into custody for questioning.
Omaha police said Tuesday afternoon that Crawford was in custody, but he had not been cited or booked as of 4 p.m. The Citi Trends employee told KETV NewsWatch 7 that she wants charges filed.
Detectives were seen going in and out of businesses in the area, looking for surveillance video and witnesses.
Crawford currently is on probation, following his conviction last year on two misdemeanors. He's challenging his sentence of 90 days in jail and probation.
