Does anyone else think this makes it easier for Sergio to get the big fights he wants? It makes him look vulnerable, which could work to his advantage.

Also, Max is usually my guy when it comes to boxing, but fukk him for asking about a rematch. He should've asked about Cotto, Canelo, Mayweather, or maybe even Andre Ward. Of course Sergio isn't going to say no to that. He'd love to beat Chavez down again and get an even bigger payday.

Cotto fights in December and is probably looking at Canelo when thats done. Ward would make sense if Andre would be comfortable losing a few pounds.

it wasn't that chavez bullshytted for 11 rounds, it's that martinez bullshytted for one round. chavez has no chance no matter how many times they fight.
Nah he had opportunities throughout that fight to land shots but he'd get close and not pull the trigger. I will agree that Martinez bullshytting almost got him KTFO. I don't think Chavez deserves a rematch despite the last round I see it going much the same as this fight.

My bad :manny:

It was a great performance, for the good part of 11 rounds he schooled Chavez. And even after getting knocked down he eventually came back and landed 4 straight on him. Much respect to Martinez, hes a true champ

Well i guess u gotta point, amongst active fighters he is elite. But compared to other fighters of the past 20 years Id give him a B+. Hes a little sloppy with his style sometimes, not as disciplined as a Floyd mayweather or Bernard Hopkins. Those 2 fighters are the toughest to hit, even now i guarantee Bernard would school Chavez at light heavy. He wouldnt get knocked down once, it'd be just like the Pavlik fight. Like i said before Martinez is an athlete thats very smart at using his athleticism to his advantage. But Mayweather has athleticism plus skills. And he always fights the same way, doesnt take chances

Breh you are comparing him to Floyd and Hopkins the two top fighters of this era. Just because he is not on their level does not mean he isn't elite. :upsetfavre:

Hopkins is probably my favorite fighter ever but lets not act like he has been knocked down by people who were no where near his level. :upsetfavre: Plus he was fighting a guy who was at LEAST 20lbs heavier than him.

If Martinez would have got as early a start in boxing as Floyd do you think he wouldn't be close to Floyd's level?

lol @ "bullshytting" for 11 rounds. Please stop.

Word... nikkas is killing me with that... That nikka's face after the fight should serve as all the testimony. He wasn't going out there sitting on his hands. Roy Jones even said during the broadcast, that he couldn't commit all the way to a punch because he was becoming aware that Martinez was already gonna be on the move when he threw it, as well as dotting up his face.

Were it not for that one round, everybody looks at Chavez' face afterwards and all "rematch" talk, if it even got uttered, would be greeted with :childplease:

Y'all acting like I'm saying Chavez would've won, had he thrown his hands more he could've at least made it interesting. Martinez was there to be hit quite a few times.

I picked Martinez to win but like I said Chavez had his chances when they were in close and couldn't or wouldn't pull the trigger IMO.
you cant pull the trigger if you dont know where the hell the damn target is :beli:

Chavez is way too slow for Sergio, and Sergio was not giving him a target to unload on. Chavez only beats guys by throwing them on the ropes or in the corner and wailing at the body. Sergio was not allowing that at all tonight until the last round where he wanted a KO and opened himself up.

Chavez didnt have many chances to do anything tonight because Sergio is too fast for him, both with his feet and hands.

yeah but that hands down approach nearly costed him that fight.

he had his hands down the whole fight. That didnt cost him.

what almost cost him was going for that knockout when it wasnt necessary. Thats that warrior ego or whatever that got to him.

Idk why he aint get on his bike like he did against Pavlik.

Chavez jr's biggest problem was he didn't jab nearly enough to get inside Martinez. He waited and let Martinez get off first instead of stepping in deep and forcing Martinez backwards. Whenever he pushed Martinez straight back he was able to land but he didn't do it enough. He had too much pride to go out like a complete bytch so he went for it in the last round and almost stopped Martinez so I'll give him credit for that.

Although he didn't let his hands go like he should, he still gave Sergio his toughest fight in a hot minute.

Chavez jr can rebound against a guy like Macklin and Sergio can try and get a fight with Cotto/Trout winner or Ward or Floyd. He should stay away from GGG though. GGG will capitalize off the mistakes Jr made.

He was supposed to fight Ortiz tonight. I think they wanna line him up with a big fight next for sure. The Lopez fight was an absolute joke and a step back though. I know Lopez beat Victor but that was flukey as fukk
