Chavez Jr. believes Canelo has lost the love of the Mexican boxing fans because of the entire situation with middleweight king Gennady Golovkin.

For most of 2016, Golovkin and his team were trying to get Canelo in the ring. Canelo, who held the middleweight title at the time, vowed to make a mandatory defense against Golovkin last fall. He instead vacated his world title and then dropped down to junior middleweight.

"The fight is important for Mexican boxing, both for him and for me. The people are interested in a good fight and two Mexicans who draw attention worldwide is something very important for boxing, in addition to a sports rivalry that's gone on for a long time and finally we will fight," Chavez Jr. told ESPN Deportes.

"He lost a lot of affection from the fans. He does have a lot of popularity, but at the same time he has very little affection from the fans - because he lost them when he turned away from Golovkin and when he turned away from the best fighters - which is something that I've never done... it's worth more to fight quality than quantity... the quality of the people [you are fighting]. And the affection of the people is with me. When we get up there in the ring - we will see what happens." - See more at: Chavez Jr: Fans Are With Me, They Turned on Canelo Over Golovkin - Boxing News

I wonder if this is true in Mexico?:ohhh: I guess we will see May 6th:lupe:

Canelo has a better resume though...

Imagine....

Warriors score 107 points
Nets score 111 points

But because the Warriors were at home and are more popular, they're awarded the victory. Officially. Basketball fans, analysts, and sports media are fukking bewildered. Investigation, lawsuits, and all kinds of shyt take place...... maybe even a shut down of the league if not handled promptly.

Boxing can't even fix this............. NONE of the other shyt even matters. None of it. How long has this sport been a sport? Over a century? And it's not even attempting to get right?

I can't take this shyt anymore... there's no point in any of this shyt because it's all crooked. It's like we accept this shyt man............. I can't anymore, and it's driving me crazy.

I'd rather just step back and just keep it casual because it's just........... what's the point?

eternal optimism my brother...keeps me watching boxing today..just like it keeps me watching football where the fukkery is just as bad

truth man.... you know CERTIAN people wanna act like there aint steroids, robberies, dives, guys set up to fail on purpose and straight up crooked fukkery aint going in the sport past or present just cause it would make there favorite fighter look like a fraud or not as great.

if u think like that then u are just a casual fan who is more into the records/ko and how things look, then rather how it really is.

boxing always been like this.....so I guess people feel its no use of fighting. u never know if these guys are winning for real or taking dives man...shyt is just a prize fighting scam gambling vegas casino entertainment business. its not a sport with honesty, integrity and good sportsmanship first and never will be.

Canelo has a better resume though...

Of course, but the last time he fought someone that was his true equal was Lara and that was like 2 years ago and he barely won that.

Canelo is getting lifetime passes for fighting tough guys from a while back. 2016 he went on the UK career mode and fought Khan and Smith. Two guys he was expected to KO.

Boxing is a what have you done for me lately sport and Canelo hasn't done shyt lately. I don't read minds (that great) but that's prolly how Chavez jr meant it.

Plus popping shyt and backing down to GGG and handing him his belt, was a pure scary nikka moment. (Not calling ginger scary, but that whole ordeal was bytchmade)

Like where's the mexican pride. :dahell: He's pretty much letting GGG throw down their flag and Canelo just shrugging it off. :manny:

A legend like #TitoTitans sent the whole island after a nikka when that happened.:obama:
As of now Canelo wouldn't even be able to inspire the average taco vendor to chase after GGG the way he just gave up his belt. :snoop:

It's business...

May vs Pac blueprint

He will fight Golovkin except if either Golovkin or him will lose before, they're just milking that fight. I don't say that I like that but it is what it is...

I agree that his better wins were earlier like 2-3 years ago although I think the Liam Smith and Cotto wins were not bad.

Yeah I get its a business, but damn, at least fight some nikkas that have a legit chance in the meantime. GGG is doing it with Jacobs and Canelo is finally doing it again to an extent with Chavez jr.

The Cotto win was solid, but Smith and Khan were average at best. My criticism is more in that he didn't KO dude, but it's still a solid win. Im not shytting on it.

Smith and Khan names weren't buzzing before that fight so I can't hype it up afterwards.

This whole milking of big fights sucks because we get too many bullshyt fights before we get what we want, especially when dudes only fight twice a year.

I talk mad shyt about Ward and Krusher, but at least we only had to wait like a year and some change for that to happen. fukk all this 2-7 year plan for big fights.

nikkas want all the zodiac signs in the sky to be perfectly aligned and shyt before a super fight happens.

:russ:

Ward vs Kovalev went so easily (one year I think) cause they knew that they can't turn up the hype on that anyway because neither fighters are that famous, they are in the grey zone, the guys who are somewhat known even to casuals but not superstars... and they will probably stuck at that level

Golovkin vs Canelo is different

It's interesting to me though that Golovkin is a lot more known than Kovalev even though both are KO artists and Kovalev eve beat bigger name/better opponents.
This not a knock on Golovkin now don't get me wrong, it's just strange to me why Kovalev didn't blow up that much. :jbhmm:

Chavez Jr: Fans Are With Me, They Turned on Canelo Over Golovkin

By Miguel Rivera

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (49-2-1, 32 KOs) expects to have the fans on his side on May 6th, when he faces fellow Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs).

GGG and SOG are not even remotely alike in the way they have moved in their careers OR they way they are discussed

GGG was a silver medalist....SOG was a gold medalist.

GGG beat a nobody & was gifted his 1st Championship....SOG had to enter a tournament, and then had to beat the #1 ranked guy in the division for his as the underdog.

GGG has never even beaten an A fighter in his division....SOG cleared his own division, moved up to the next man's division, and beat the guy who was ranked #2 P4P while holding 3 of the 4 Championships there. Same person his haters claimed SOG wouldn't move up to fight....he did. And he won. And now they even madder than before.

GGG is protected by the Boxing media....the same Boxing media who slanders SOG.

So, yeah. It sounds like personal bias or hate, whichever you prefer to call it, when people say random stuff about SOG that's far from true. You CANT talk down on his resume. You CANT talk about a loss he took. You CANT say he's immature or gets in trouble out the ring. You CANT talk about him missing weight or playing scale games. You CANT say he's dragging up fighters from 2 divisions below to fight them. You CANT talk about anything bad about SOG as a fighter, especially when every single fighter & trainer in the game gives him props for being one of the best fighters period. Only on the internet do people talk down on SOG, and it's always personal bias or hate. Other than that, what's there to dislike about Ward?

He's boring? That's a personal opinion.

What else?

Exactly breh....there's nothing but people not personally liking SOG. There aren't any stories about Ward doing anything :mindblown: that exists......and, for the record, the hate for SOG started way before The Coliseum was even on created. SOG haters were on sohh.com as well:yeshrug:

There's a big barrier......$$$ needs to be stacked higher than $5 million, if Main Events want a rematch. If not, SOG is cool with walking away:manny:

Simple.

That is my point though. Even if you have the greatest resume in the history of boxing, you aren't immune to The Ring fukkery. The Ring fukkery spares no one. Now comebacks may be easier in defending Ward or styling on other people because Ward's resume is pretty damn glistening, but that doesn't mean you get to stand on the sideline and avoide Coli fukkery and cry foul if people want to go at you for real or for fun. I only used GGG as an example (not to compare resumes or anything about them as fighters - that is a whole nother discussion), just saying people bytch about GGG never being criticized by the media, I just used it as an example to say that Ward isn't criticized here (agree that the media unfairly criticizes him). But we aren't the media and we don't need to protect fighters for ulterior motives here. Any fighter and all fighters can get it here, just like any and all fighters should get credit here.

Just know that I have always agreed with everything anyone has said regarding the quality of Ward's resume or his place in PFP rankings. Never been a hater there.
You are right in that the media and fan hate for Ward is weird in that he has never done anything to earn that criticism. There are plenty of other easier targets that the media chooses to not pick on. The only two things that I can think of that I don't care for about Ward is IMO he is The Rings most babied fighter and I find him personality a bit self righteous/arrogant. But that is just an opinion and I could see how someone would have the opposite opinion and respect people who do like him. Ironically I was thinking about that the other day and I generally am not fans of people who are super cocky and prefer more humble personalities. And then I remembered my favorite fighter ever is RJJ and he is one of the most arrogant fighters ever. #ConsistencyCops on myself. :skip: For whatever reason, RJJ just had a swagger I liked.
Bruh RJJ was special though. We may never see someone of that pure ability again. The things he was able to do in there made no sense :gucci:
He should get a pass

This would never happen, but imagine if they did that shyt with the top 6 WW's?

I just looked it. The Super 6 lasted 2 years. We got 11 fights out of it. Looking at the schedule, there weren't even any bad fights.

I'll take that over what I'm getting now. At least use it to bring a spark to some of these divisions. Remember years ago the S6 was rumored at the cruiserweight division?
cruiserweight super 6 would be legendary
