Dan Rafael chat wrap 1/27:
- With GB losing the lawsuit vs. Haymon will they try to protect the Canelo money train even more vs. GGG? No, Canelo will be popular before and after he fights GGG (even if he loses). Just like ODH.
- Provodnikov is serving in a political office in his home in Russia. His manager says we may or may not see him fight again.
- Agrees that Danny Garcia should talk to his dad about toning some of his comments down.
- HBO and Showtime are bidding on who shows Joshua-Klitschko. Showtime is confident they will be showing it.
- Pacquiao vs. Horn will be on PPV. We will see if it is on HBO or TR PPV.
- Didn't take what LSC said in regards to why would he fight again if he loses to Frampton a second time that seriously.
- LSC knows he needs to jab and box more, but he is a warrior at heart and could easily get pulled back in to that type of fight.
- If Frampton and Selby win, believes we get Frampton vs. Selby later this year.
- Tickets sales for the fights in Vegas seem a little soft, but the fans that are there are pumped.
- Chance of Miller vs. Wilder? Not for Wilder's next fight. It would put Miller on short notice and short money. Miller is discussing fighting Ortiz.
- Suspects Wilder's opponent will be Gerald Washington.
- HBO is becoming very PBC like. They are not talking to the media to share their plans or strategy with televising boxing.
- If Andrade performs as normal, he should win easily vs. Culcay.
- Mikey Garcia is not signed to Schaefer's company, but they seem to like each other and content to work on a fight by fight basis.
- Hurd vs. Harrison? Outstanding fight.
- If GGG wins impressively vs. Jacobs will his critics give him the proper credit? Probably not.
- Khan and Brook need to make a deal. It is the biggest fight for both of them by far.
- 70/30 is Khan's way of saying "I don't want the fight".
- Showtime is developing documentaries on Camacho and JLC-Corrales. Also interested in doing something similar to HBO's Legendary Nights about Showtime's greatest fights.
- Unlikely there is US TV for Breidis vs. Huck.
- No news on a Ward vs. Kovalev rematch. If it were to happen it would not be until at least June.
- Good chance GRJ next fight is in the DC area. Probably going to be in April along with Charlo-Hatley.
- The number of fighters testing positive for banned substances makes you question in boxing's history how many have been cheating.
- Had dinner with Froch recently and Froch doesn't understand why Calzaghe beating Lacy was a big deal. Believes it bothers Froch a lot that Calzaghe is considered better than him.
- Zlaticanin upset over Garcia.
- JMM changes his mind all the time if he will fight again. Recently has been saying he wants to. Should have made the Cotto fight.
- Ugonoh is getting some hype and is interested in seeing him fight in person.
- Prime Sergio Martinez vs. Mayweather at 154? Really interesting fight.
- Could see ODH's relapse coming because at the B-Hop fight last month he was drinking beers. Addicts have setbacks, that is not surprising. He should not drive drunk and endanger other people.
- Best British performances in the US (other than Hamed vs. Kelley)? Lennox Lewis had good ones and Froch vs. Taylor.
- Vargas beats Berchelt on will and heart.
- Good chance Crawford vs. Diaz gets done. Arum has reached out to DiBella. Diaz is an approved opponent by HBO.
- Stevenson is still in talks for April 29 vs. Smith Jr.
- Beterbiev vs. Barrera is a good fight. Barrera could give him some problems early, but once Beterbiev connects it will be over.
- Showtime turned down Rios vs. Ortiz as a main event fight. To be a main event it might have to be on Spike.
- Is being told that Roach will not be training JCC.
- Believes Showtime is going to push for the Linares-Crolla winner to fight the Garcia-Zlaticanin winner.
- Showtime will not pickup Haye vs. Bellew.
- BJS vs. GGG in the summer is certainly possible, but a long way to go to get it made.
- Believes we set Porter vs. Berto on Showtime in the spring.
- Being told now that Usyk likely won't be on the GGG vs. Jacobs card.
- If GGG vs. Pirog would have fought when scheduled, who would have won? GGG.
- If he did programming for HBO, what 3 fights would he put on? Joshua-Klitschko, Crawford-Diaz, Ortiz-Miller (HBO has the rights to Ortiz's next fight).
- Prefer Brook vs. Khan or Brook vs. Spence? Both fights are good, but Brook-Khan because it is a bigger event.
- Favorite announcing team? Lampley, Merchant, Steward.
- Lomachenko has an April 8 date from HBO, no opponent yet.
- Frampton named BWAA fighter of the year and Vargas-Salido voted fight of the year.
