Gennady Golovkin wonders whether Daniel Jacobs has more power than him
Gennady Golovkin refuses to let talk of Canelo Alvarez distract him

GENNADY GOLOVKIN is remaining solely focused on what he feels is his biggest challenge – a fight against Daniel Jacobs next weekend at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The unbeaten Kazakh has proven himself No 1 at 160lbs while most consider Jacobs the second best in the world, making for an exciting match-up.

While ‘GGG’ is best know for his monstrous punching power, the Olympic silver medallist is also keen to point he has more strings to his bow.

“I feel great and training camp has been great. I’m ready to fight Danny Jacobs, he’s my biggest test,” he said.

“Of course I feel that I have power and it is very important to me and I can feel the power in my punches. I get that from hard work and practice.

“It is not just power. It has a lot to do with timing and distance. It is not all in the punch.”

In December 2015, Jacobs’ stock sky-rocketed when he blitzed former WBO ruler Peter Quillin inside one round.

A fast starter, he has not required the judges’ cards since 2009, though was stopped in five by Dmitry Pirog in 2010. Shortly after that loss he was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer, but after extensive surgery and radiotherapy he made a full recovery.

Golovkin is aware of the threat he poses and feels Jacobs could even hold the edge in a department ‘GGG’ is usually considered a heavy favourite in.

“This is boxing. He is a very good fighter and maybe has a little bit more power than me. He has big power and he is a very good boxer,” he said.

“I am happy because I work hard every day for the last two months to three months. Right now is my last week and next week is the fight. Of course – this is my first fight of the year and he is a tough guy and a great fighter and I am very excited for this fight and this year.

“He is one of the most dangerous for me. He is very good in the ring. He is a good boxer with good technique. I respect him too, he is a very good man.

“Daniel was sick but right now he is a great boxer. I have watched a couple of his fights and he looks good. He looks strong and he looks very focused. I think he is the best that I have been up against in my career.”

Given that it is the biggest fight that can be made in boxing, Golovkin still has to address the topic of a potential clash with Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez despite being just a few days away from his tussle with Jacobs.

“Right now I am focused on Daniel. I don’t know – my promoter, he talks with Golden Boy. It might be this year it might be next year, but right now my focus is on Daniel Jacobs, he is my next fight. Of course I would like to fight Canelo but we will talk about that later,” he said.

Though he is not a particularly big middleweight, there has been talk of Golovkin moving up in weight to pursue challenges there.

For now, he is happy at middleweight and revealed he only has a few pounds to shed before next week’s weigh-in.

He said: “I feel very comfortable at 160. Right now I am at 165 and next week I will be at 164 or 163. I don’t know about going up.”
Humble guy but imo I'd say he probably has more power due to the accuracy and odd punching technique. Jacobs got heavy hands though

Brook tho...

:beli:
Listen man, Brook's best win is Porter, he won on an ugly fight but w/e, nice win but you are acting like Brook would be some proved veteran, look at his other opponents in ww :pachaha:
Oh I forgot he won a round against Golovkin before he capitulated in the 5th on a career high payday win-win fight. Let's count it as it would be a win. :pachaha:

Danny, Brook and Spence are the 3 top wws? In which universe? :childplease:
Danny just lost to Thurman for fukks sake. You can preach all day long about precise technique and etc if the man still lost.
Spence is not proven enough to be top 3 no way, but I have high hopes for him, when he blast Brook out he will be top 3:umad:

Top 3 ww right now are Thurman, Pac and probably Brook.

I'll ask again...

Is it fair to judge a win/loss based on what the opponent does AFTER your bout?

A W can only increase in Value ... Never decrease

Examples Roy Beating Bhop...that W increased in Value as Hopkins became a great middleweight

Floyd vs Sugar Shane...at the time Shane was P4P, had a 147 belt N errybody said Floyd was scary...Floyd gets the deserved credit for taking that fight N winning ...even tho Shane did jack shyt after

who's lucas?:dame:

but I like tcraw. probably emerging as my favorite among the new guys at 140-147. think he got that "it" factor that some of these other dudes are lacking. great boxing ability, high ring iq, fights through adversity, and he's not afraid to stand toe to toe when shyt hits the fan. I wanna see him succeed.

Trainer: Canelo Sparring in Top Form With Light Heavyweights

"Saul has generally been characterized by his ability to show progress in every fight. He has been showing better things and I think we will see a Saul who is very different because the preparation has been different. We have been working for the first time in a long time without the worry of weight, And will arrive with a great preparation"

"Canelo is walking around at 174-172 pounds, and at that weight he is is comfortable. We are working very well. It's been a very good start with the preparation. In our last few fights, we were having a hard time getting to weight. We are really in a great preparation and [Canelo is] giving his best.

"We started sparring with boxers who are similar to the physical conditions of [Chavez] Junior. They have been very good sparring partners and next Monday we will be joined by two others. We have worked with strong, tall [sparring partners]. We have worked very hard and [the sparring sessions have] been so good that sometimes we thought that he was actually fighting."

I'm tellin yall. people keep talking about size and shyt. but they don't realize canelo gonna be stronger than ever in this fight. don't gotta worry about cutting weight anymore. at 164, he's gonna be able to keep on a lot of muscle and still maintain his speed. he gets to go through a whole training camp without stressing about weight....just focusing on technique and strategy:ohlawd:....he's not gonna be the strongest guy julio has ever fought, but that's actually a bad thing for julio. canelo probably can't hurt him with one shot, but he can still bust him up and make him bleed. once them eyes start swelling up and his face starts leaking, julio will be mentally defeated. the first time canelo hits him with a bomb and he realizes canelo punches a lot harder than he expected, all that macho shyt gonna be out the window.

I can't fukkin wait:CaneloRejoice:

I think alot of people including myself do it in here...for example the versions of ghost that Thurman and swift faced I feel were very different

Fight can't come soon enough. I feel like the speed difference will be massive. I wonder about the gas tank though but we'll see

What about a loss's value?

Also, would Roy's win value over Hop be more/equal/less than Taylor, Calzaghe, or Dawson?

“Boxing’s not safe,” he said. “You have to take challenges. And there’s a lot of people who wanna be like, ‘You can throw me in the jungle or anywhere and I’ll be the Lion King,’ or whatever. (Laughs) But are they actually doing that? So I’m showing proof that I’m going all the way overseas to fight a guy in his backyard. Yes, he’s the titleholder, but I’m a guy who believes in my technique, skills, ability and God, and my left hand and right hand are gonna do all the damage and the talking for me. So I have full confidence in what I have and I believe I’m the best at 154 pounds and I’m willing to get in the ring with anybody.”

“I haven’t done the things that I’ve wanted to do in boxing and I’m not where I’m at in boxing for the people outside of boxing to recognize who the real deal really is,” he said. “So, of course, the hunger is there to let the people, and also myself, know that I’m the best and this is what I have to do. There is no easy route and it’s not like everybody is just going to jump in the ring with Demetrius Andrade, so that’s why I’m here now. This is a way of showing the people that I’m not afraid. It’s not a politics thing, I don’t a matchmaker to tell me who to fight, when to fight, how to fight; I need to let the fans see that I’m about making great fights.”

“There’s no damage here, I haven’t been getting hit, and also in the 154-pound division, people are starting to see that it ain’t a division unless Demetrius Andrade is in the mix,” he said. “If you take me out of the mix, who’s left to really claim it? Where’s the real talent at, because the fights are not being made? With me in the mix, there are great fights left to be made in the division and that’s the beauty of it.”

This Culcay fight is being promoted by Sauderland the same promotion working with Schafer to do the Boxing Super Series DA needs to enter that tournament!

So, Thurman's win is affected by Guerrero's future loss(es)?
nah i like to think of it as more of a "point in time" type thing

thurman beat a ghost coming off a decisive but brutal win over kamegai, who is a WW journeyman at best; basically he put to bed that ghost was an elite welter
