The appeal with Ward as the b side is that many people feel he can beat Canelo. Anytime you’re the biggest draw in boxing, there’s always going to be fans that will pay to see you lose.

Canelo/Ward is a big fight

Canelo fans are weirdos though when you suggest a fighter that can give him problems. They come up with any reason why he shouldn’t take the fight.
100. Canelo got that 'i wanna be that guy' army. It's similar to the McGregor fans. They desire/emulate the individual, it obscures any sort of rational discourse regarding potential fights/weaknesses etc. It's disappointing, a bit of self reflection goes a long way.

Ward would be stupid to take any fight at this stage. Too long out the game, furthermore for a fighter at his weight class.

I guess so, it's certainly the biggest counter puncher he's fought.

They know what they're doing with this fight though. Anybody who saw Mungiua v Inoue knows that from here on in Inoue is a broken man both physically and mentally. Took tremendous punishment and will never be the same as a result.

This is Tsyzu camp M.O. throughout his career so far for the most part.
  • Fight smaller, inexperienced fighters he can bully
  • Fight bums
  • Fight former higher achieving boxers who have been badly beaten or have lost the desire (Horn, Hogan, Inoue)
It's a smart tactic, you look good doing it and you mitigate a younger, fresher, sharper opponent.

It's not dissimilar to Canelo/Reynoso at certain points the last few years.

Tsyzu doesn't look like he juices though.

breh inoue is on 4 win streak :heh:

inoue is far from broken...he is still dangerous...esp for tim tszyu
Sure. I don't disagree re danger. I do think he's broken in many respects. That's why they took the fight.

Doesn't change anything that i wrote before regarding Tszyu.

And Tsyzu is my guy btw.

No doubt.

Tsyzu relishes the contest, he loves to go war, nice power both hands (like a lot of natural 154's.)

Counter defence, head movement is what i'll be looking at. If that's improved then his belt prospects significantly improve.

David Benavidez: I Feel Like I Can Stop Jermall Charlo

Former super middleweight titleholder David Benavidez says he was emboldened by Juan Montiel’s surprisingly effective performance against Jermall Charlo in their middleweight title fight in June.

The underdog Montiel ended up losing a wide decision, but the fight was more competitive than the scorecards indicated. At times, Montiel, who pressed forward all night, was able to land surprisingly clean combinations on WBC middleweight titlist Charlo.

Watching Montiel go to work had Benavidez (24-0, 21 KOs) licking his chops.

“I thought, honestly, that Charlo was going to knock him out early in the fight,” Benavidez said on The SI Boxing Podcast. “Just seeing him make it to the 12th round was really surprising, but honestly I wouldn’t doubt if he overlooked him and didn’t train as hard. Montiel, he’s a warrior, too. He had two losses…but his wins were all knockouts.”

Benavidez, 24, is scheduled to face Venezuela’s Jose Uzcategui (31-4, 26 KOs) on November 13 at Phoenix Arena in Benavidez’s hometown of Phoenix.

Although Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs) campaigns at middleweight, Benavidez has expressed interest in facing the Houstonian, going so far as to say recently that he would drop down to 160. Both fighters are backed by Premier Boxing Champions, so it is not inconceivable that they could swap punches down the line.

Should that fight materialize, Benavidez sees plenty of holes in Charlo’s defense that he can exploit.

“[Montiel] was really landing on Charlo,” Benavidez said. “The type of stuff that he likes to do, the punches that he throws, are what I like to throw, too.

“Charlo, I think he’s not as good a fighter as he thinks he is. He’s still a great fighter, and it would be a great fight, but I feel like I can stop Charlo.”

Benavidez is coming off a 11th-round stoppage of Ronald Ellis in March.
