The left hook he landed on McCrory is one of the most beautiful punches I’ve ever seen thrown. Countering the jab with that short left hook, which should have ended the fight. He was done after the 1st KD. Virtuoso performance.

Unfortunately Curry was on the receiving end of another highlight reel left hook against the Bodysnatcher.

Curry-Starling 2 is one of the better technical chess matches you’ll see.

Curry sadly is in bad shape right now neurologically. In addition to everything that happened in his pro career, he is said to have had about 400 amateur bouts. I wonder how much that played into his quick decline as well.

Oh and his brother Bruce Curry’s bout against Monroe Brooks is one of the best junior welterweight fights ever.

At the time in 07’, I thought Paul was a style nightmare and I would favor him. Looking back, I would favor Floyd, but it would be a tough and ugly fight.

Paul was about half a foot or so taller and rangier than Floyd and would’ve outweighed him on fight night by about a dozen or pounds. He had a crazy workrate (imagine the amount of leather thrown from a Williams-Ouma matchup at 154), while Floyd was selective and accurate with his punches.

Unfortunately for Williams, his defense was bad. In order to avoid getting outworked by Paul’s workrate, Floyd would probably do a lot of clinching. He’d probably move laterally, time and come in with straight right hand, and then clinch to disrupt Paul’s rhythm. I think he would have done that often and well enough to win a decision in a competitive fight. Williams never really properly “fought tall”. Which was better for the fans though, since it made for entertaining bouts. Volume puncher with bad defense.

Mayweather (and Manny for that matter), was better below 147. People just lumped them in mythical matchups with other, larger ATGs who peaked at 147 or above. I like the mythical matchups more so with guys like Arguello, JCC, Whitaker, Duran, Pryor, Camacho Sr, etc….

Yeah the Guerrero fight was trash but I didn't mind it because Guerrero was coming off the big win against Berto and it was for the WBC and Ring Titles. It was also Floyd's first fight since he got out of jail. You can't fault a guy for fighting a soft touch who's also world champion after getting out prison. I guess he was interim champion since Floyd moved up in weight to fight Cotto and also because he went to jail but I'm not going to be mad at a guy taking a soft touch after a long layoff + prison.

You're definitely right about the Marquez fight. That was very foul.

I weigh the Mosley fight pretty heavily. That was the first fight I ever attended in person and Mosley was coming off that huge win against Margarito. Floyd got touched but then pitched a shutout the rest of the fight. I thought that was one of his best 147 performances. Floyd got hit too much against Cotto IMO which is why he got rid of Roger and went back to his father for all future fights. Also I wasn't that impressed with the Cotto fight after seeing how Pacquiao dismantled him. I did not think Pacquiao was going to destroy Cotto in that manner.

I think Floyd's career is strange in many ways. He's one of the only athletes I've ever seen become a household name and megastar AFTER their prime was over. It's almost like if we imagine a world where the first half of Jordan's career along with the first 3-peat took place when the NBA was only on tape delay and the second half of his career where he was slower, more crafty, added a fadeaway and had his 2nd 3-peat was the only thing people most people saw and remembered. That's Floyd and I'm not sure we've ever seen that from any other athlete.

Clearly Floyd was more so in get and protect the bag mode the 2nd half of his career but the first half of his career, he was such a bad muthafukka and he was avoided. Would have been interesting to see what would have happened if Floyd could have gotten that Mosley fight back in 07 as opposed to 2010.
just off pure entertainment value I wish we could’ve seen Floyd/Hamed in 97/98..I also wish he would’ve fought Zab a few yrs earlier like around 99/00

PW had no defense at all man. That is just not gonna cut it at the elite level.

this fight made me so mad....i really thought punisher was going to take this L...he was determined to prove something about his chin/punch resistance..lara was lining dude up something serious but ended up taking the L

like i said Lara should have had his zero took at this point of his career...just not by Punisher..so it was karma righting itself

Lara whooped his ass so bad that I thought Paul should retire.

I have no idea why his team thought putting him in there with Lara was a good idea.

We already saw Paul get his ass beat by Quintana and Martinez. Lara is better than both IMO.

there was...bro had fights at 175 waiting for him..the problem was his body was breaking down...trying to face the likes of superman or beterbiev in that condition was rolling the dice

At the time, I didn't think he could even beat Gvozdyk at 175 either

If he had fought Canelo and GGG, two guys that had the household popularity and guys he could surely beat, then that would have solidified him IMO
