Just finished watching Provo/Algieri. While in my opinion on first glance, Provo won mainly due to how more effective and more damaging his shots were, I cannot deny that Algieri sucked it up, toughed it out, and put on an absolute boxing clinic while showing a lot of heart. I can't cry robbery when I see the numbers, and without a doubt, Chris outworked Ruslan. Might have to watch it again to give it a more definitive score. Still, props to Algieri for fighting through that eye, going the full 12, and getting the win, while showcasing outstanding skill and tremendous will. Even though he's no power puncher, he moves so well and boxes so crisply, and with the tenacity and courage he has, he's a guy that I have no problems with watching in the near future.

Algieri fought a very cerebral fight. He is a good fighter no doubt. He wont be a long reigning champ but he wont be an easy vick for his title either. Some of the things I liked that he did was....he took his time when he got floored. He took a knee to get himself together. These are veteran moves from a guy who basically is a local fighter. His stamina was excellent and not only was he very active, he mixed in a lot of good body shots. I never thought that much of Prov and thought his fight against Bradley was a bit of a mirage. Also I dont view Alvarado as championship caliber. Prov did look good early on but he will always have problems with movement. I actually thought he would give Manny a hard fight, even though I would be picking Manny to win. Based on what I saw I think Manny would have a lil easier time with Prov than I first expected.

I don't even think Algieri is feather fisted like how everybody keeps saying. Most feather fisted dudes never punch correctly to begin with. This dude was throwing sharp punches that he turned over for leverage and on a few occasions he was snapping Ruslan's head back and making him stop dead in his tracks. He's not some heavy hitter, but he ain't no feather duster either.

I still wouldn't mind seeing Garcia/Provodnikov. The exchanges in that fight would be dope as fukk and when that left hook from Philly lands perfectly we might be treated to a KO of the year. :ohlawd:

I think people are basing Algieris punching power off Provodnikov face looking clean after the fight

When Prov fought Herrera N Bradley 2 other fighters thought of as light punchers the nikkas face was leaking N swole

That might be it too, but his shyt was still looking a lil swollen. Either way I think Algieri's quality of punches weren't bad. Ruslan's would prolly find a way to get hit by the double end bag in the gym the way he doesn't like to move his head. The few times he did, he was able to make dude miss.

I think Bradley and Herrera threw harder shots at Ruslan because they had too. Them nikkas were like fighting for their lives. Algieri stayed more composed and basically boxed at a high volume. Pretty much the way nikkas expect Khan to fight. Dude didn't even resort to clinching, holding, etc.. like that either.

TBD: Lomachenko Still Fights Like an Amateur

When BoxingScene.com spoke to Gary Russell Jr. last month, he hadn't yet watched all of Vasyl Lomachenko's loss to Orlando Salido. What he did see, though, didn't leave him impressed.

"From the little bit that I did see, it showed me that he still fights like an amateur," Russell said. "He’s not comfortable with changes in style, he’s not comfortable when a guy gets rough. He doesn’t know how to make the adjustments on the fly. He doesn’t understand that. He doesn’t think that we’re going to take advantage of that in the fight."

Does Russell feel Lomachenko has learned from his only professional bout?

"You never really know. Hopefully he does, every fight that you have is a learning experience. Hopefully he goes back, he pays attention to the fight, he figures out the mistakes that he made and makes the necessary adjustments."

Russell has yet to step up as a pro, but he's gained seasoning from his 24 fights in the pro ranks. He believes Saturday's WBO title bout with Lomachenko at the StubHub Center in Carson, California will lead to a lengthy reign over the featherweight division.

"I think I’m too much for anyone in the division," he said. "I think experience is definitely going to play a factor in the fight. I think it’ll definitely play a factor in the fight."

Herrera actually put a fracture in Prov's forehead in that fight lol. but yeah Algieri needed to sit down on his punches more...dude's too much of a mover which i think is the reason why his punches are not as damaging so its more of a style tweak he needs

Undefeated records against jobbers means something now? :usure:

Loma dared to be great in his second pro outing instead of feasting on bums, you have to respect that. :birdman:

And if he does his best win is against a nikka with 3 pro fights. :dead:

That says more about Gary than it does about Loma :umad:
