Hank Lundy throwing shots at both Terence Crawford and Danny Garcia:

HANK LUNDY INSISTS TERENCE CRAWFORD IS "STRAIGHT RUNNING" FROM HIM; SAYS HE'S "EASY WORK" AND HE'D KNOCK HIM OUT
By Ben Thompson | June 30, 2014

"Terence Crawford, we got on Facebook and went at it, and he said after his fight with Ricky Burns, he was gonna step in the ring with 'Hammerin' Hank. What ticks me off is, he fights a guy that's been off for a year and some change, but he won't fight a guy that's up in the rankings who is actively fighting and destroying people. I can respect he won, but at the end of the day, why he ain't fight Hank Lundy," stated top lightweight contender Hank Lundy, who seems a little less impressed than most with Crawford's 9th round knockout of the previously undefeated Yuriorkis Gamboa. According to Lundy, fighters like Crawford, as well as unified jr. welterweight champion Danny Garcia, are choosing opponents that will not provide the type of challenge that he can bring to the ring.

"Another guy out there is Danny Garcia. I kind of laid off of him because he a Philly brother, but at the end of the day, I'm ranked up in the WBC, I'm ranked in the lightweight division and in the 140-pound division, so I'm ranked up there in the top 5, but you pick a guy that's not even in the top 70 in the world. I'm in the top 10 at 140; I'm #5 in the world at 135. These guys straight running from me, man," Lundy explained during a recent conversation with FightHype's own Percy Crawford.

Although Lundy did give Crawford credit for his performance, he noted that Gamboa was at size disadvantage going into the fight. "It was a good fight. I seen Gamboa actually hurt him. At the end of the day, I'm gonna keep it 100, it was a good fight for Terrance, but he was kind of small. I looked at the weigh-ins and Crawford was way bigger than Gamboa, and at 135, I'm a monster, so fight a guy like me," he continued. "Don't fight a guy moving up! Fight a legitimate 135-pounder that's putting in work like Hank Lundy. And now I hear he talking about moving up to 140? Don't bytch up, man! Don't run. I'm waiting to whoop that ass."

When asked what would have happened had it been him fighting Crawford this past Saturday as opposed to Gamboa, Lundy was quick to reply, "Listen, it would have been easy work and I guarantee the fans would have been mad, but I don't give a damn. I would have went in there, took that title, and knocked him out."

I can't even front, Lundy took too many fades for these so called skilled boxers to be running from him. Crawford needs to make this happen. I mean how often do we get two skilled African Americans going at each other in this day an age. Everybody is always being paired up against Mexicans or Euro nikkas.

Danny might send Lundy's chin to the Atlantic Ocean if he actually connects with one of them left hooks though. :pachaha: Either way definitely a better fight than Salka

Is Terence Crawford the next great American fighter?

After his outstanding knockout of Yuriorkis Gamboa this past Saturday night, believe it or not, the jury is still out. Once Crawford figured out how to time Gamboa after the 4th round, he dominated the fight. However, those first 4 rounds may have provided insight into how to beat Crawford. Gamboa used speed and movement to frustrate Crawford. Gamboa was unable to sustain his attack, but a bigger, more active fighter could have caused Crawford many more problems. I'm not downplaying how good Crawford is. He is one of the most promising fighters in America. However, before crowning him as a Top 10 superstar, I think he needs better opposition. Prior to Saturday, his best win came on foreign soil against Ricky Burns (which was extremely impressive), but the guy he beat in Gamboa is a blown up featherweight. Gamboa landed some flush shots on Crawford and only one hurt him. Against a true lightweight, Crawford may have been hurt more and that fight could have played out completely different. Crawford stated he wants to move up to 140lbs for his next fight, and I commend him for taking the step up. The competition is much stronger at 140, and Crawford needs to take it slow if he wants to succeed. A fighter like Humberto Soto, who could test Crawford's chin but wouldn't be quick enough to keep up with him, would be a great first test at junior welterweight.

Real talk though, Crawford is good, but let's slow down and not rush him as the next big thing in boxing just yet. I definitely think he'll be a top 5 boxer at 140 though, just would like to see him in with a little bit bigger/better opponents first.

He's being brought along nicely, but Arum already talking Pacquiao vs Crawford next year:snoop:

By Chester Rivers:

Last night in Omaha, Nebraska, U.S.A, WBO lightweight champion Terrance Crawford defended his 135 lb championship against challenger Yuriorkis Gamboa (23-1, 16 KO’s). The only problem was Crawford entered the ring unofficially 152 lbs. During their pre-fight instructions, there was no doubt as to who was the larger man. Crawford dwarfed the 5’5 1/2″ Gamboa as the two fighters stood nose to nose will receiving instructions from the referee. If ever there was a time to bring back the same day weigh in the time is now.

Weighing in on the same day ended in the early 1980′s. Because promoters were in fear of losing money when one fighter would come in overweight and the other fighter refusing to fight because of this issue. It was proposed that the fighters would have a 24 hr weigh in window to make the agreed upon weight. At the moment either fighter make weight that would be his official weight for the fight regardless of his weight at the time he steps in the ring. Most fighters today take full advantage of this loop hole by campaigning nearly 20 lbs. lighter than their natural body weight.

What would be the impacted of this reform?

It would force fighters to fight at their natural body weight. Fighters such as Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Julio Caesar Chavez Jr and now Terrance Crawford would not have a 10 to 15 lb weight advantage over their opponent. It would also have a drastic change on who holds the title. Can you imagine Canelo Alvarez, who normally weighs around 167 on fight night campaigning at super middleweight? Would he still be as successful fighting guy his on size? Crawford knocked Gamboa down several times before knocking him out in the ninth was staggered by a Gamboa punch in the eight. What would have been the result if the both were the same size?

While others are arguing about reform in boxing because of perceived corruption with the commissions and judging, lets start with the reform that can protect the health of the fighters by bringing back the same day weigh in and forcing fighters to pick on guys their own size.
