Cotto trying to get him to weigh in under 159, Chavez is only willing to drop to 159.................

Someone else besides Chavez and ward. Chavez ain't fighting no fukking cotto. Better chance for a GGG cotto fightShould we discuss Floyd N
Or how bout Maidanas Gloves some more![]()

Special K got this
168 is a deeper division, but the same could be said for Ward right now. At 168 if he continues there, Ward basically from now on is fighting C level guys. In order to stay in that division he has been trying to call out GGG (who still is at 160 and for all the talk hasn't moved up for even one fight) and JCC who can't make his mind up about anything. Ward can keep on fighting C level guys (or not fighting at all) or move up where there is a B level fighter who wants to be an A in Kovalev.
IMO, GGG gets a fair amount of leniency due to the fact he wants to clean out 160 and he still has a lot to do there. The big fights for legacy will come down the road.
The Ward talk works both ways. GGG doesn't have a contract signed and presented to Ward like Chavez...but Ward doesn't have a contract in talks vs anybody...his legal situation is affecting his career and he blames it on guys ducking him.![]()
We did over 10k for the Kessler fight and 8,500k for the Dawson fight with both held in Oakland
Golovkin just set his highest attendance mark with 8,572 at MSG against Geale
Hell, SOG did 8100 against Allan Green......but GGG is a bigger draw though![]()

Question: People are calling for the Andre Ward vs GGG superfight. But Ward just doesn’t have the fan following or star power to warrant such a fight especially not on PPV. Your thoughts.
Bread’s Response: I think you are being silly my friend. Ward vs GGG is a legitimate superfight. Just like James Toney vs Roy Jones was.
Let me break this down piece by piece. Golovkin should not be forced to move up and fight Ward if he can still make 160. That being said, that is the fight we all want to see. Both were medalist at the 2004 Olympics, one is from the old Soviet system. One is from the urban school of American boxing. Both are undefeated and considered to be the best fighter in their divisions. One is a scientific master, the other is a brutal precision puncher. They both have intriguing personalities.
Here is the thing before you say Andre Ward does not have enough star power to fight GGG, have you researched their ratings for their top fights on premium cable? If you have you wouldn’t claim that. Have you researched their top live crowd attendance and gates? GGG did well in the Garden but that was not a sell out. I will go on record to say that Andre Ward’s largest two live crowds were just as large or larger than GGG’s were. I will also go on record to say that Ward’s top ratings on his premium network fights were just as high or higher than GGGs. My point is people say that Ward is not a draw but that’s not true.
The correct term would be Ward has not proven to be the A side on a PPV. But we have only 4 of those in boxing. Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto and Canelo Alvarez. What should be noted is Ward has never had the chance to fight on a large PPV or in Las Vegas.
I’m not saying Andre Ward vs Gennady Golovkin is a million-buy PPV fight. But it’s big enough and Ward definitely has the star power to carry his half of a fight he would be the favorite in.
Two more things, check GGG purses for his fights on HBO. They are going to surprise you. Ward’s are much higher on paper. Also since when does one fighter have to prove his star power as a PPV star and the other side of the coin does not have to. GGG just hit the scene in 2012 and he hasn’t proven yet that he’s a PPV star. I think both guys can be PPV stars and again this is a huge legacy defining super fight. Also this fight doesn’t have to be on PPV. If HBO could make an exception and give both fighters 2.5 million why can’t they do it on regular HBO. Julio Cesar Chavez and Meldrick Taylor fought on regular HBO 24 years ago.

The July 26 show, which aired live on HBO from Madison Square Garden in New York City, pulled in an average of 758,000 live viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. When factoring in DVR first-time viewings, the show crept closer to 1 million viewers (984,000, with a peak audience of 1.048 million), but became the first major fight for HBO to fail to hit the ‘two-comma’ mark since late January.
