After all of the back and forth on social media and threatening to go in separate directions, Jhonny Gonzalez and Jorge Arce agreed to terms for a head-on collision in what figures to be a blockbuster event in Mexico.
A deal was reached Wednesday afternoon for the featherweight title fight to take place on September 20 in Arce's hometown of Los Mochis, Mexico. The final piece to work out involves a rare joint broadcast partnership, as plans call for the event to on both Televisa and TV Azteca.

Gonzalez (56-8, 47KOs) will make the second defense of his second featherweight title reign, having re-entered the title picture with a shocking 1st round knockout of Abner Mares last August. His lone ring appearance since the career-resurrecting feat came this past May, scoring a technical decision over Clive Atwell in Acapulco, Mexico.

The 32-year old has won four straight since his first title reign came to an end following a technical decision loss to Daniel Ponce de Leon in Sept. '12. Gonzalez has also previously served as a bantamweight titlist.

Arce (64-7-2, 49KOs) was thought to have been done with boxing following a humbling 3rd round knockout loss to Nonito Donaire in Dec. '12. A recognized titlist in four weight classes (along with an interim flyweight title reign) who was among the most popular Mexican fighters of his time, Arce would have been a shoo-in for the International Boxing Hall of Fame had he stuck to his retirement plans.

Instead, the proud all-action fighter decided to give it one more try, specifically with the goal in mind of capturing a featherweight crown. Arce, 35, has won three straight since returning to the ring last November. His most recent winning effort came in June, scoring an 8th round injury stoppage over Jorge Lacierva.

The significance of the fight comes on several levels, particularly political aspects. Gonzalez is promoted by Promociones del Pueblo, whose stable is mainly showcased on Televisa and its Sabado de Corona series. Arce is represented in Mexico by Fernando Beltran's Zanfer Box, the chief content provider for TV Azteca.

Should both networks agree to the proposal currently on the table, it will mark the first time ever that a boxing event will be carried simultaneously on both networks.

despite 1 loss in 6 years, and to a top guy, never really heard anything from him ever. weird a guy with such a good record and so active wouldn't get more shots..
