im going to Howard this Spring... which neighborhoods/towns should I look at?

I got my eye on some apartments in Silver Spring right now. It looks like a straight shot into D.C.

Silver Spring over Hyattsville?

Definitely Silver Spring. Howard is on Georgia Ave, which literally goes through the heart of Silver Spring and will be a straight shot down. If you live up in Hyattsville, you’d have to go through Northeast before even reaching HU so you’ll definitely value the convenience a lot more.

If you go to Hyattsville I would look at Towers at UTC. I'm not sure if it's student only housing but there are a ton of HU students that live there. They provide a shuttle to campus. You'd also be at PG Plaza Station on green Line straight shot a couple stops from HU

Me and my new shorty are possibly moving from the 757 to nova, woodbridge to be exact. Both transferring our federal jobs to that area. Was looking into Stafford area as well. All in all nova seems like a great place to live.

I’ll look into those spots as well! Thank you for the suggestions

Them areas will kill your pockets. Look further up Georgia Ave. Kennedy, Brightwood, Takoma areas. Less hectic, 2 Safeways(Grocery store) Walmart, Target not too far. Plenty off ethnic food spots. And close to Rock Creek Park, and that's the least gentrified part of NW.

stafford is a lot further away from dc than you would expect when you start living there. Will you be working in the city?

I just got done looking at Shaw:picard:

I would love to live in that area, I did some quick research and Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald used to play there:krs:

I’m not trying to pay above 1550 for rent though and Shaw for a 1br/1ba is about 500 out my range.

def can see myself hitting up some spots out there on the weekends tho. I’ll check those spots u mentioned as well

Actually my job will be in Bethesda Maryland. My girls job will be at Fort Belvoir. Regardless I'll have about a 1 hour commute which I've done my whole career anyway. We just prefer a quieter setting than living in the city.

When things get back to normal that might be a 1 hour drive for her and going to be a 2 hour commute for you. That stretch of 95 has traffic everyday of the week. It could be a dry sunny day with no accidents or construction and its stop an go

I know this is unasked for Advice, BUT

breh, please reconsider. You may have all the podcasts and audiobooks but that transfer from 495 -> 95 on a friday will whoop your ass every week.

With moderate traffic my girl used to work at NIH, in bethesda, we were living in downtown silver spring. It took her 20m to get to work with moderate traffic, sometimes a half hour in the evenings.

You absolutely should not live any more south than woodbridge, and even that is pushing it. Because, once you get off of the beltway you will then have to deal with bethesda, which is full of entitled cacs.

Your commute will be dreadful. you should book an airbnb in both stafford and woodbridge and try to do your commute at rush hour times and see what its like.

If yall have jobs that are reolcating you, you gotta eat that CoL and move somewhere at least in between bethesda and belvoir.

do not buy a house

I agree w The Knee Grow and Jimmy - definitely no further south than Woodbridge. Yeah, they got VRE, Omnibus and the Express Lanes, but that is still a ridiculous commute to Bethesda. Y'all might want to consider looking in Lorton or Springfield.
