all they have to do is build on skyrims engine and skill trees... it shouldnt have to be this hard. WHY THE fukk ARE THEY PUSHING BASE BUILDING IN THESE GAMES FOR?!!?

base building is piff. As a survival game fiend I welcome evolving that part of beth games but keep it optional for those that don't care for it

fukk these cornballsEverything sounds awesome and as expected of a game that basically all the fans knew was always gonna be in Hammerfell just from looking at that old CG 2018 trailer way back when. Lmfao at pussies still bytching about settlements in 2025; You literally never have to build or interact with the system at any point in FO4. You can play thru and beat the entire game while leaving that crackhead Mama Murphy and dumb ass Preston in the Lexington church the whole time if you want. Never have to make a single supply line or defend a single settlement from attack if you don't want to, hell the fukkin settlers are "essential"/immortal and literally can't die to anything but you the player anway. And it will be the same with whatever the system is called in ES6: enjoy it if you want or ignore it and carry on without ever interacting with it. Quit bytching, quit hating, and get ready for peak.

you do know that the base building was kinda essential for the retaking the castle mission which was apart of the main storyline right???yes we didnt NEED to do the base building we know... but still why include it at all..

Unless you get kicked out of the BoS, Institute, AND the Railroad the game's story won't even take you to the Castle at any point. And they include it cause it's fun MF 
Where else would I display my personal collection of all the power armors with each custom paint job? 
How else would I make my conveyor belt that dupes any item I tell Dogmeat to fetch off it??

I mean you can think of it like expanded player housing in Oblivion/Skyrim if that makes it more palatable.
I do think it should always be as tangential/optional as possible so making it less in-your-face with the radiant quests and badgering from NPCs like Preston Garvey is an improvement I think they can make.

It's probably way easier. Instead of building 7 or 8 towns with unique/interesting NPCs, they can have the player create half the towns, and fill them with generics so it feels lived in. Make only 3 or 4 real towns that are central to the plot, and you can cut down on a ton of writing & art design.

This. If I recall correctly, Skyrim had radiant quests too, but you had to seek them out by talking to an innkeeper and asking if they knew of any jobs. Preston automatically telling you to help a settlement as soon as you finished helping another, ad infinitum, annoyed the completionist gamers.

I never directly interacted with base building. Stuff like that bores me to tears and if I wanted to run settlements, I'd play the Sims. I just downloaded some expertly pre-built settlement mods in FO4 & called it a day.
