Did we "fear and respect" Spurs when they had consecutive finishes above us? No.
Did we "fear and respect" Liverpool before Klopp and they were the perennial bridesmaids? No.
Did we "fear and respect" Chelsea even though they were consistent winners in England and Europe? No.
Did we "fear and respect" City even though until this season they slapped us around for the entire Pep era? No.

fukking STOP IT. I'm not saying the season was a total wash because of Spurs OR because of UCL. What I am saying is downplaying SILVERWARE, which is the objective of every team from day one of the season, is straight up bullshyt.

Trophies are legacy. Not "consistent top 4 finishes" or "putting the pressure on".
I disagree, maybe your memory must be hazy. Spurs were definitely feared and respected during their run. I recall taking those matches way more seriously. I respect their champions league run than this europa league.

i don’t get the Chelsea bit, I don’t know which era you’re referring to. Pre-Abrahamovic era?

I’m not making the case that trophies don’t matter but the singular focus on trophies as the only measure of performance is just downright weird.

Trying to make winning Europa league, especially in its current iteration, equivalent to a deep run in champions league is wild to me. It’s like having the best grades in the special ed class or having the best grades when you were held back a year.
Id rather just leave it being a matter of taste.

If you realize that winning a trophy means you outplayed everyone in a competition over the course of 9 months then you should realize why trophies are treated as a big fukking accomplishment. It's not like they are the NBA In-Season tourney.

Europa lasts months and months and you are traveling all over the place into all types of environments. Spurs had to play 14 games to win the whole thing, they only had 2 losses during that timeframe.

Why should their poor play in a completely separate competition matter for Europa? Even in the domestic league they had blowout wins over Aston Villa and Man City despite having 21 losses overall

Crystal Palace just won the FA Cup. They had to beat Fulham, Aston Villa and Man City in consecutive matches. That is an accomplishment. They outlasted every single other team in the Premier League, Championship, League One, League Two, etc...

People need to realize these are year-long comps that are completely separate and treat them as such.

Also, it was not just a bunch of scrub teams. First of all, Man U isn't supposed to be a "scrub team" their payroll is massive. But other than Man U, you had Real Sociedad, Ajax, Frankfurt, Lazio, Athletic Club, Roma, Lyon, Porto, Galatasaray, etc... in the competition. These are teams with some international prestige, far from scrubs.

It's weird to try dismiss a trophy, especially for Spurs. They haven't won shyt since Defoe was kicking ball for them, in his 20s, now he's about 45 years old.

Amorim all week was dismissing the trophy. This shyt is gonna cost United millions. They are in deep shyt, next season will be epic.

On trophies being the only measure, I agree. My argument isn't against that. It's against the downplaying of a major trophy. Europa is arguably the 3rd most important competition in Europe behind UCL and your domestic league. It. Is. A. Major. Trophy.

In the same way we celebrate 14 FA Cups they will celebrate this. Have we won more and more important trophies? Yes. But the here and now is what matters and right now, they have won a bigger trophy with European competition before us. Do you think Sevilla downplays their Europa titles? No.

It is what it is.

:scust:Absolute horror.

Blame Wenger for the ‘top 4 achievements’ mentality that rotten majority of our fanbase.

League standings does not fill cabinets.

Same way that Arsenal started get better once Spurs started to make progress in the league, perhaps this European cup win, will push us to achieve something next season

:scust:‘Next season’ like every fukking other year
