Bill Simmons or Colin Cowherd said that QBs who get a ton of hype and see their draft stock skyrocket in the months after the end of the college football season and before the draft usually end up being busts. Seems like that was the case with Trey Lance, Zach Wilson and now JJ McCarthy.

It almost always happens, and teams keep falling for it.![]()
I cannot for the life of me think of why they'd say "nah these 14 wins just weren't enough to prove we can get better this upcoming season, let's roll the dice on a guy, coming off a season ending injury, that threw the ball 8 times a game in college"This is an all time bad draft pick
And they lost even more by not trading him after Darnold’s season.
Only the Vikings GM watched a game where this guy didn’t throw a pass in the second half of a close game on the road and thought, “that’s my guy!”I cannot for the life of me think of why they'd say "nah these 14 wins just weren't enough to prove we can get better this upcoming season, let's roll the dice on a guy, coming off a season ending injury, that threw the game 8 times a game in college"
Nah Trey Lance had hype the year before. Issue with him was he lived off that hype. He could transferred elsewhere and played his sophomore season, but decided to live off his RS FR season.Bill Simmons or Colin Cowherd said that QBs who get a ton of hype and see their draft stock skyrocket in the months after the end of the college football season and before the draft usually end up being busts. I think Underwood could have been like that elsewhere though. He might have got humbled by the time he got to the NFL like Caleb, but breh wildly underestimated just how outdated Michigan's pass offense is. He might be talented to overcome a Harbaugh less Michigan team, but we'll see.I wanna feel bad, but when you unveil the whole goofy Nine thing you're inviting shyt like this. Just like Underwood saying we ain't never seen a QB like him, Caleb being extra sassy last year... You gotta move like a politician if you a QB these days

As much as I give Lincoln Riley shyt...Caleb should thank his lucky stars he chose to follow him at USC instead of going to Wisconsin. Almost let short term money put his career up in the air.
I never crown QB’s too early or write them off too early, but I feel pretty confident that I’d rather have Tommy Cutlets start for the Patriots than McCarthy. Hell, it might be drastic, but I’d even consider Nathan Peterman over McCarthy back when he was playing.

Only been 4 13-win seasons in Viking history, 8 if you want to include the 12-win seasons back in the late 60s/70s.
Team in obvious win now mode that let their starting QB walk for an unproven handoff merchant
A lot of other holes in that team that got exacerbated because of how bad Nine is.![]()
