Yeah I wanted to bring up the LeBatard angle a few days ago, but everyone gonna go ahead and ignore it lol. They even talked about it (this situation) a bit yesterday on his (Dan's) podcast too. Pretty similar circumstances (from the outside...again, no matter what y'all keep keepin' on in here about, NOBODY knows what the real facts are), with completely different outcomes. I wonder why that is...
In a word, professionalism.
Everybody and their mother knew that his time at ESPN was up, and it was just a matter of when, not if, he left. He hasn't tried to get around his non disparagement agreement to shyt on ESPN, didn't make a big deal of publicly stating what he wanted, and I imagine, was pretty upfront in negotiations about what he wanted.
Also helps that they were able to establish an idea of value with the round of funding they were able to secure. Much easier for someone to open up their wallet for you of you've already talked someone else into it.
But being able to present yourself as a good and willing partner in any deal goes a long way toward getting paid.
I’m assuming Parks and the others make a flat fee per episode because Parks claimed he didn’t have a contract, he probably just bills Joe for using his house and Engineering the pod. Same with Screenman and Savon... just paying for their services
now more than ever, I don’t believe Joe was telling the truth about those Spotify renegotiations
He claimed Spotify wanted piece of everything Mal and Rory was doing but why would Spotify ask for that if Rory and Mal weren’t under contract with Spotify.
What AK said makes sense, Spotify gave Joe a couple million dollars and said gives us 2 pods per week.
Could be argued that paperwork would call for right of first refusal for anything made be Joe and anyone employed by whatever entity is responsible for the podcast on paper.
But even if that were true, that doesn't guarantee that they get a cut. Basically, they'd be required to present the idea to Spotify at some point in development to see if they're interested. If so, Spotify pays up, and they get the exclusive rights. If not, Spotify get no exclusivity, doesn't pay, and you just can't use Spotify time or products to develop or promote the new product.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but you really don't see this 360 shyt anywhere other than music.
