Joe wanted them to do that to help build up the Joe Budden Network under the guise that he may cut them in down the line after the network blows up. Seeing how he acted with the pod and telling them he wants to put them under contract instead of paying a percentage no one in their right mind would do that.

They were literally under contract that they couldn't do their own thing without Joe's involvement. Add in the fact that Joe was opposed to them having any ownership and didn't even want to honor the deal he already made with them, I don't blame them for not helping Joe expand his business, he was acting shady the moment money started coming.

You don’t know what joe was oppose to them having. Your assuming as if they would’ve started outside projects and joe would’ve owned them and not them. Yes if they started outside projects joe would’ve more than likely been involved.

Mal seems like a pretty chill, rational, on-point guy. If he’s supposed to be from the Rocafella cloth…what made him align so closely with somebody as erratic and goofy as Joe for so long? It definitely couldn’t have been about money. Podcasting just became profitable in the last couple years. He was rocking with this dude over a decade…even lived with him. Joe alluded to Mal having abandonment issues. Was Biggs and his brothers not really close to him like that? There’s no way you’re sleeping on a nikka like Joe’s couch unless there’s some issues there.
