I referenced this situation when this first popped off. Joe doesn't need to have any kind of formal conversation with you if he thinks the relationship is over. Rumor is his first baby moms found out Joe was done with her when he said he was going to the kitchen and just never came back.
Joe was saving his true feelings and wanted to say

It wouldve ended the friendship and business dealing but its what joe truly feels.

Rory and especially Mal have transitioned from friend to employee and they don't know how to act.
Mal thinks he should be consulted when Joe, the business owner and majority shareholder decides to put an employee on time out? Mal thinks that Joe, the majority share holder should consult with him about any deals that come across the table?
Idk what their contracts are but I don't think Mal or Rory own 33% of the podcast so they aren't privy to that sort of stuff. Parks doesn't either but as a person whose worked for other ppl for years, knows his role.
