They're both active rappers in the sense that they're actively recording music with the intention of releasing soon. Flip side...Andre 3k isn't active. I wouldn't call Jay Electronica active either.
And of course Kendrick is still in demand. Dude blew up twitter with one message, and then had people going crazy off one feature - two, if you count Range Brothers/top of the morning. People want a Kdot album, and I'd argue people want a Hov album.
I'd take the convo in a different direction though and ask...does Kendrick need to re-establish himself as a top rapper, or do we automatically assume he's still #1 (or whatever you ranked him, 1-5)? Because I think we're at a point where there are a lot of guys who are great at rapping, in the conversation etc...and I feel like I need Kendrick to prove he's actually serious about rap. Yea he talked some shyt in that Family Ties song but I'm not sure whether his focus is on being the best rapper...or being the biggest rapper. Assuming the rumors are true about his album having a rock influence...is he going in a (old) Kanye direction of focusing on making the best album regardless of lyrical prowess or is he focused on out rapping people. I seriously doubt he's listening to Cole thinking wow I need to do that rappity rap shyt.
