Why would you expect them to know that?
That’s fairly common knowledge among people in their 40s and 50s who live minutes away from NYC which has among the highest concentration of Jewish people in the world.

Jewish lineage is not something that a lot of black people are concerning themselves with no matter where they're from.
Just because they may interact with a few jewish people dont mean they would learn how judiasm would be passed down. That's not a normal topic to have with people. "How's your day? How's business going? How do you become jewish?". Joe is close with Ian and I cant imagine that topic coming up between them. Hell he just learned Ian can speak spanish.Understood but you would think that given where they live, their age and the number of people from different walks of life they’ve crossed paths with especially Ish and Joe would know that.

In a good number of cultures most the stuff is passed down through the father's side and they probably assumed the same.
For surface level stuff, like learning the muslim guy doesnt eat pork, sure. You can learn that by having a business lunch. For something deeper, like learning jewishness is passed down through the mom's bloodline, no. That's a deeper convo that most people wont care to know unless they like sleeping with the other person or close friends.Usually when you interact with people from different religions and cultures you learn about their culture

if you say soThat’s not a deep convo. A lot of non-Jewish people know that by their 40s and 50s.

Disagreeing with you about thinking someone should know how jewishness is passed down isnt making an excuse for them. It's just thinking you are wrong.Gotta stop making excuses for these dudes.
