That’s fairly common knowledge among people in their 40s and 50s who live minutes away from NYC which has among the highest concentration of Jewish people in the world.
This sound like that "Nguyen" conversation we had here a few weeks ago.

Jewish lineage is not something that a lot of black people are concerning themselves with no matter where they're from.

Understood but you would think that given where they live, their age and the number of people from different walks of life they’ve crossed paths with especially Ish and Joe would know that.

Just because they may interact with a few jewish people dont mean they would learn how judiasm would be passed down. That's not a normal topic to have with people. "How's your day? How's business going? How do you become jewish?". Joe is close with Ian and I cant imagine that topic coming up between them. Hell he just learned Ian can speak spanish.

In a good number of cultures most the stuff is passed down through the father's side and they probably assumed the same.

Usually when you interact with people from different religions and cultures you learn about their culture. That’s lowkey part of our problem we welcome in all these other people into our culture which they learn about and absorb like a sponge while we don’t know about their cultures. Joe and Ish would have a pass if they were in their 20s. But to be 50 or approaching 50, from the NYC area and not know that Judaism is passed down thru the mother’s side is wild.

For surface level stuff, like learning the muslim guy doesnt eat pork, sure. You can learn that by having a business lunch. For something deeper, like learning jewishness is passed down through the mom's bloodline, no. That's a deeper convo that most people wont care to know unless they like sleeping with the other person or close friends.

That’s not a deep convo. A lot of non-Jewish people know that by their 40s and 50s.

Gotta stop making excuses for these dudes.
Disagreeing with you about thinking someone should know how jewishness is passed down isnt making an excuse for them. It's just thinking you are wrong.
It's in the same pile as the convo of Silk being upset that they didnt know how to pronounce Ngyuen or w/e.

You overestimate the importance black people(or anyone) puts on learning about the inner workings of jewish religion(or any religion that isnt their own). Most non jews wouldnt gaf. To most people, you are either jewish or not, no one gaf how they became jewish. If I see a catholic/baptist/muslim, etc idgaf how they became one.
