DE/LB Chase Winovich

Winovich, who has gotten the "Dude" label from Don Brown on at least one occasion, has been standing out all spring according to multiple people we've talked with. He's currently slated to play a rush-end/SAM-ish type spot, similar to the one that Jake Ryan played during his junior season with the Wolverines. Speed has always been the strength of Winovich's game, and he's brought the types of element in the flats and in the pass rush that Don Brown will recruit going forward.

CB Channing Stribling

The story on Stribling has been consistent throughout his time in Ann Arbor; he's showed it in flashes but has yet to put it together consistently. So far, so good for the senior cornerback, as he's another player we've been told is having his best practices as a Wolverine. If he can step it up on the other side of Jourdan Lewis, Michigan's defense has a chance to be truly great in 2016.

OL Grant Newsome

This one is an important one as well, as Newsome's play will likely determine where Mason Cole starts the season. If Newsome can become a guy at left tackle, Cole will shift inside and create a potentially smooth transition at the spot after the departure of Graham Glasgow in the middle. If you questioned why the staff put Newsome on the field as a true freshman last season, his ascension so far this spring might provide you your answer. The Wolverines may have found a three-year starter at one of the most important positions on the field.

LB Mike McCray

"The kid is unreal".

That was the quote I was given in talking to someone with intimate knowledge of Michigan's spring practice set earlier this week regarding the redshirt sophomore's play at linebacker this spring. Linebacker has rightly been labeled as Michigan's biggest question mark this season outside of quarterback, but if the hype behind McCray's spring is real, they could be OK at the position.

Standouts McCray stay healthy plz:wow:

Hansard: Things have changed between Michigan and Princeton (NJ) Hun School 2017 Top150 defensive tackle Fred Hansard.

After the Wolverines appeared to be on the outside looking in (whether this was by choice or not I still can't figure out), Michigan is going to make a push for Hansard's verbal commitment on May 20th. They may be in a strong position to secure it as well.

Defensive tackle is a huge need for the Wolverines in this cycle, so a commitment from another elite prospect at the position would get things off to a good start. We will have more on Hansard in the near future.

Singleton: Speaking of New Jersey products, I talked to someone with intimate knowledge of Michigan's recruiting scene and asked them if there were any players that could be labeled a lock, or at least close to one. I got two names (sort of).

"With Josh Ross now on board," they said, "I'd say Drew Singleton is the other. After that, they may shut down shop at linebacker unless they find another guy they like enough to take."

At this point, it's a near certainty that it'd be Michigan or Clemson for Singleton. Both he and Corey Bolds will be at the spring game on April 1st, and the Wolverines are heavy 247Sports Crystal Ball favorites for both prospects.

Tennison: Another big visitor for Michigan's spring game is Texas tight end commitment Major Tennison.

As of March 26th, the belief on Michigan's end is that Tennison will not sign with Texas. The Wolverines may be the school with the inside track for him as of now, but a battle could be brewing as other major programs are starting to step up to the plate. Georgia and Arkansas recently offered, and Alabama wasn't too far off either.

His spring game visit will be one of the more important ones, as it will give the staff their best shot to change the game in his recruitment. We believe Tennison is either near or at the top of Michigan's list at the position.

Bits
- Michigan's safety board is starting to become clearer. Some combination of AJ Harris, J'Marick Woods and Jaylen Kelly-Powell will likely fill those spots, with a possibility of all three, as Kelly-Powell is a versatile defensive back that can be used in different ways.

- Still feeling like Michigan may add Springfield (OH) Top20 ATH Leonard Taylor to the fold sooner rather than later. He visits Ohio State this weekend, and the Buckeyes have offered. Depending on how things look coming out of that visit, a 247Sports Crystal Ball may be coming soon.

- Offensive tackle remains wide, wide open. The top targets remain the same, but look for Michigan to push on Bellaire (TX) Episcopal Top150 tackle Walker Little in the near future. Little was offered at Michigan's satellite camp in Houston last summer.

- Michigan's interest in Los Lunas (NM) four-star running back O'Maury Samuels is real. Regardless of what happens with A.J. Dillon, look for the staff to push for Samuels.

Stephan Carr will be at the Spring game his film is:merchant::whew:

Michigan picked up a verbal commitment from Groton (MA) Lawrence Academy four-star running back/athlete A.J. Dillon on Monday morning, giving them their second designated running back in the 2017 cycle.

Dillon committed to Jim Harbaugh and Michigan over the weekend, but waited until Monday to make his pledge public. His addition gives Michigan a high ceiling athlete that can be a difference maker at the running back position. Much like Michigan's 2016 pledge from Massachusetts (Sean McKeon), Dillon is a guy who is really, really athletic for a player of his

Going into his visit last week, I posted that it was going to be a good barometer visit for both Michigan and Dillon, as we had the Wolverines possibly running fourth on his list. Wisconsin was the favorite, he was a Notre Dame legacy prospect, and Florida State was his childhood favorite.

However, this visit turned into somewhat of a home-run for both parties, as Michigan was really impressed with Dillon and what he brought to the table from an on and off the field standpoint. The same could be said on the other side, as we were told that the strong visit to Ann Arbor caught Dillon and his camp off-guard. A good indicator of this is the quick commitment not only post-visit, but also when seeing Wisconsin and Notre Dame after he saw Michigan last week.

Maybe more than most verbal commitments, Dillon's is indicative of the staff's ability to recruit on-campus. Notre Dame legacies are usually tough to beat, and Dillon was definitely a target for the Irish staff. It's a nice win for Tyrone Wheatley at running backs coach, but also defensive coordinator Don Brown, who is starting to establish himself as a great recruiter for the Michigan staff.

With Dillon on board, we expect the staff to continue to pursue elite targets at the running back position, with Los Lunas (NM) four-star O'Maury Samuels, Fontana (CA) Summit four-star and USC commit Stephen Carr and Nashville (TN) Montgomery Bell Academy four-star Ty Chandler being among those targeted hardest. The staff will also continue to pursue versatile athletes like Philadelphia five-star D'Andre Swift and New Jersey four-star Bo Melton as well.

Y'all just got a commitment from a 0-star CAC with no other D-1 offers and your recruiting class is looking very suspect.

Meanwhile Urban is out here stacking elite recruit after elite recruit....................:smugbiden:

:stopitslime:

He's a fullback. Remind me the last time they were highly rated..

Jim's recruiting what he needs. Urban doesn't use a fullback, so you guys wouldn't understand.
