On Thursday, 247Sports national analyst Ryan Bartow reported that a long-rumored deal between Michigan and Devin Bush Sr. was finalized, as he was hired to become a defensive analyst for the program, following a somewhat similar path to former Paramus Catholic coach Chris Partridge, who was recently promoted to linebackers coach/special teams coordinator on Jim Harbaugh's staff.

Like Partridge, Bush Sr. has the potential to have a massive effect on Michigan's recruiting abilities. The better news is that it will come in the most talent-rich areas in the country: south Florida.

Another similarity to the Partridge hire is a magnetic personality. Relationships are the engine that drive recruiting, and Bush Sr. is one of the most visible figures in the state. This is because he's a National Champion at the college level and a Super Bowl winner at the NFL level and is a state champion at the high school level. He knows how to motivate and coach the defensive side of the ball at a high level.

The Miami and Fort Lauderdale areas are arguably the two most talent-rich high school football cities in the country. Bush Sr. is easily one of the most respected names in that area because of his legacy as a player both on the field and in the coaching booth. In another situation similar to the aforementioned Partridge, Bush Sr. took a Flanagan team that mightily struggled in the past and won a state championship in three seasons, fielding arguably the top overall defense in high school football.

As a defensive analyst, Bush Sr.'s role will not be one where he can actively recruit (he can pick up the phone, but can't pick it up to make calls), but it will still make a major, major difference in helping get elite Florida recruits more interested in the program and will play a big role in on-campus recruiting in the area.

Michigan has 20 offers out to 2017 prospects in the greater Miami-Fort Lauderdale areas. It's a spot that they are determined to not only make a dent in, but eventually become a force in. This hire is their biggest endeavor in doing so at this point.

“We’re a total of 103 on the team,” he said. “There’s no difference between scholarship and nonscholarship to me. That’s the team, 103 right now. There’ll be 22 more coming. Plus preferred walk-ons coming as well. We’ve got to be 105 when we start training camp. Cage match to begin on Feb. 29.” ...

“It’s always a competitive thing is happening at whatever positon it’s at. That’ll be something that’s happening at quite a few positions. Might as well say all of them. Nothing’s set in stone. As we said, it is a meritocracy. Cage match. Let’s move from meritocracy to cage match.”

So refreshing to get away from the "upperclassmen always plays first" Hoke bs

“People-Jones is on that upward trajectory you want to see with a wide receiver, a guy who gets better each time you see him as he continues to add size, quickness and polish to his routes. He’s a technician in route-running, which stands out the most to me as he is a quarterback’s best friend, setting up defensive backs and gaining that separation to make for an easier target.” - Farrell

“Peoples-Jones made a jump to the cusp of five-star status in the post-junior season update, and his showing at the Under Armour Future 50 camp on Jan. 1 was the final push he needed to get over the hump. A physical specimen who looked bigger than his listed 6-foot-1 and 188 pounds, Peoples-Jones has the size and strength to destroy press coverage, the speed to get deep on cornerbacks and the precision in his route-running to create space in the short and intermediate passing game. On top of that, Peoples-Jones is a 4.0 student in the classroom who has shown an exceptional work ethic and dedication to his craft. He released a top 10 in January that included Florida, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Tennessee and others.” – Josh Helmholdt, Rivals.com Midwest Recruiting Analyst

Will say it against best prospect to come out of MI in a decade. Can't let him leave the state.

Rankings change
: + 75 spots to No. 39

Evaluation: “Watching McCaffrey on film, you continue to see things that impress. He has the size of his father, former NFL receiver Ed McCaffrey, and some of the athleticism of his brother, Heisman finalist Christian McCaffrey. His ability to keep defenses honest with his feet opens things up for his arm. He can make things look very easy at this level and is just starting to become a polished pocket passer. The sky’s the limit for the recent Michigan commitment.” - Farrell
