UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones entered a guilty plea Tuesday in Binghamton City Court to one misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated.

The 24-year-old Jones was released pending sentencing on June 19. He must undergo an alcohol abuse and dependency evaluation by the court.

A plea agreement with the Broome County District Attorney's office calls for Jones to receive a one-year conditional discharge and a fine to be determined by the judge. An ignition interlock device will be placed in his car for six months, and he is required to attend a victim impact panel class focused on the effects of driving under the influence.

Jones was arrested in the early morning hours on May 19 after his 2012 Bentley struck a utility pole. Jones refused a breath alcohol test at the scene, the Broome County DA's office confirmed, though he admitted to police that he'd been drinking.

Despite Jones' legal troubles, UFC president Dana White confirmed that the budding star would remain in a Sept. 1 title defense against Dan Henderson.

"He's a young kid and he's going to need a lot of guidance," White told reporters over the weekend. "The kid is incredibly talented. He's starting to make tons of money and he's getting really famous. Those are all the recipes for disaster."

Traffic violations against Jones for making an improper turn and deviating from a direct course were dismissed at the arraignment Tuesday.

The problem with Jones is that he put out that "good-boy, check it out I'm gonna do everything by the book" label on himself. And as soon as he did that he opened himself up to the criticism that he's been getting...great fighter but he's always seemed a lil fake to me.

Needs to cut a promo on some "I'm the best in the world. If I'm wrong, then someone prove it" 1984 Ric Flair shyt.

This ain't Sports Entertainment. Chael acting cocky is OK because he's a white if Bones is gonna be the new face of the UFC he can't do that. CACS already dislike Jones but at this point and time they are the fanbase.

unlike boxing (which has a diverse crowd) an ethnic cant play heel like brock/chael do cuz it slashes their box office appeal.See these devils would sooner skip the guy's fights altogether than pay to see him lose.

Maybe its to do with the fact a large sector of ufc's fanbase is made up of teens/college types that are restrained financially.Or maybe it just harkens to the fact most so called mma fans are really just in it to live vicariously through the fighters (that share their likeness)

Koscheck and rashad are the closest things, we have seen evans numbers when he isnt opposing a draw and its :scusthov:. And kos has never really had to headline ppvs on his own like that so his appeal is really unknown but I doubt mma will ever have a money mayweather

Tito Ortiz...

They need a popular babyface to go against them too, without Shamrock and Liddell Tito wouldn't have drawn those numbers he did.
