Fabio Maldonado replaces Junior dos Santos, faces Stipe Miocic at TUF Brazil 3 Finale | MMAjunkie

I don't get it either.....but then I don't know who in the HW div is available. I was gonna say Gonzaga since he's also brazilian but him and Stipe just fought.

Maldonado is a boxer if I remember correctly so this could be a good stand up battle

Gonzaga has a broken hand. Reem just had surgery and is on vacation. Barnett has a bad knee and was just cleared to start training a week ago. There's literally not a single HW that could take the fight. They HW division is bad right now. 65% is injured or suspended.

I'm surprised they could even come up with any fight. Maldonado isn't bad. At least they'll probably go rock em sock em robots on each other. It should be fun.

Does the Dragon have a shot against Weidman, I think hes going to get his snot box rocked friends.

I think he does IF he completely doesn't hang back as much as he did waiting for openings against Phil Davis, those takedowns and scrambles away from attempts add up fast in the judges eyes. Lyoto looks scarily fast at 185 and Weidman doesn't seem like he has the foot speed to chase him down or cut him off if he sticks and moves

I think his wrestling and power will be a problem for the dragon but i think lyotos counter punching is a threat for any half bun punch Chris might throw.

I believe this fight is a 50/50 fight, Machida definitely has a chance. I actually favour him (but I'm biased). Machida is a better striker than Weidman and has the strength/grappling to keep the fight (for the most part, I believe) on the feet (or at least make it very difficult for Weidman to take him down). Stylistically, this a tough match-up for Weidman. Machida is noticeably quicker/faster than Weidman and he holds an advantage in cardio as well. The issue with Machida is that his style is too heavily reliant on his opponent being the aggressor (to the point where he lets rounds potientally slip away). Like Puppetmaster said, Machida can't sit back too much and wait for openings, he can't let Weidman dictate the pace of the fight. If he wants to win the belt convincingly, Machida is going to have create openings and force Weidman to make mistakes (while maintaining his counter-striking style when needed).

Machida has a chance? He has more than a chance IMO. I have him as my favorite. Weidman is champ that hasn't been beaten before. Lyoto was that guy before. Lyoto has really proven himself to be a killer time and time again. Machida's wins have been more awesome than Weidman's except for the KO of Silva when Silva was clowning. The injury win of Silva feels too freaky for me to give all the credit to Weidman for that.

Gilbert Burns, one of the MMA prospects coming out of Blackzilians team in Boca Raton Florida spoke on the Sexto Round Podcast about former Blackzilian teammate Alistair Overeem’s departure from the team.

“Overeem got mad because he was getting beat up by a guy with one hand, so he took Guto down and blew out his other knee. That’s why Guto hasn’t fought in a while. We were all upset about it, and that was when (Overeem) left the team. After he left, the team got better and we had better results. Thank God he left the team.”

For those who don’t know, Guto Inocente is signed the the UFC and was expected to make his debut in December of 2013 against Shane Del Rosario, however injuries forced both fighters off of the card.

Inocente confirmed the incident between himself and Overeem with mmafighting.com

“It was a kickboxing sparring. I was kicking his a– and he took me down. Unexpected.’

Burns went on to say:

“He’s cocky, and the team got better when he left. He’s really tough, but he’s not that monster that he appears to be. I saw him get beat up bad in training by Anthony Johnson, Rashad, Vitor and Tyrone.”

Burns, who goes by Durinho, is a three time BJJ world champion, and was the head BJJ coach on Team Belfort during TUF Brazil.
