Junior dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez, UFC 155 “Dos Santos vs. Velasquez 2,” Dec. 29, Las Vegas .....seems pretty much confirmed:yeshrug:

Maybe they'll "punish" reem and have him fight someone else first, at least.

Any updates on Mims' death? From the article above it seems he took little actual damage in the fight and just gassed. Maybe his weight cut contributed to it.:yeshrug:

The 2nd guy to die in a MMA fight in S.C.:wow:

Rashad Evans is fighting on 12/29 as well. No opponent yet. Could be MW or LHW

UFC on Fox 5 - Dec. 8
Benson Henderson vs. Nate Diaz
Shogun Rua vs. Alexander Gustafsson
B.J. Penn vs. Rory MacDonald

:wow:

I just posted a thread on this.

This card is crazy stacked! It's better than most PPVs. Just need to add Cerrone/Pettis to finalize the card and I will :bow:

Tyrone Mims was dominating in his debut appearance as a mixed martial arts fighter.

The 30-year-old hadn’t absorbed a single blow from his opponent, Blake Poore, during their bout Saturday night in Mount Pleasant.

Known as “Teestea,” the amateur fighter from Georgia was the one doing the hitting in this sport that combines martial arts, boxing, wrestling and kickboxing. After the first round, the referees considered declaring him the winner.

But about five minutes in, Mims lost steam. Exhaustion overwhelmed him, said an expert sitting ringside at the Omar Shrine Temple’s Convention Center at Patriots Point.

He started taking punches and kicks, unable to free himself. The referee ended the match in the second round and declared Poore the winner.

“He wasn’t being hit hard; he was simply not bettering his position,” said Blake Grice of Anderson, an MMA referee who was scheduled to officiate several fights later in the evening. “It was a textbook stoppage. But he wasn’t hurt. He was just tired.”

Mims smiled and told a doctor he was OK but needed rest. He answered questions coherently. With help, he walked into the locker room around 8:30 p.m., where he removed his gloves and drank water.

But within minutes, he began talking gibberish and breathing heavily. He passed out. Paramedics tried to resuscitate him, but the father of five died an hour later at Medical University Hospital.

His death was the second in South Carolina’s MMA community since 2009, when lawmakers created the Athletic Commission to regulate combative sports, but it’s unknown whether it was directly related to the fight. State officials said Monday that Mims underwent the required pre-fight exams, but his death had prompted some to call for tighter regulations.

No trauma was visible on Mims, and an autopsy Monday revealed “no obvious, glaring cause of death,” Charleston County Coroner Rae Wooten said.

Further testing, including microscopic exams of tissue and cell studies, could reveal otherwise. That could take weeks.

Before the skirmish, the fighter took the painkiller Percocet, according to an incident report by the Mount Pleasant Police Department. Toxicology testing should reveal whether it played a role.

“I just don’t have a definitive answer at this time,” Wooten said. “Unfortunately, it’s going to remain a very sad mystery at this point.”

I wonder why he took a Percocet before the fight

SC is not very strict with their fighter laws

In South Carolina’s first fatal incident, Michael Kirkham of Fayetteville, N.C., had suffered several blows to the head during an April 2010 match. Because of the beating, he was ordered to sit out for a month.

Two days after his return, the 30-year-old went down during his professional debut in Aiken. The brain hemorrhage he suffered was linked to the earlier hits.

Matt Robinson, owner of Charleston Krav Maga & MMA in West Ashley, said stricter state regulations might have prevented such a death.

“Everybody needs to follow the same rules,” Robinson said. “If a guy has been knocked out a couple times, I think CAT scans should be required to make sure.

Finally some biz savvy here....Sacrifice a PPV or 2 now, build a following using the Fox Audience and a stacked free card...and reap the rewards on every PPV after they are hooked.

Earlier I heard dana talkin bout not putting some of the headline fights (bones, silva, gsp) on Fox because they generate too much in ppv.

Short sighted nikka

Those fighters are the three biggest draws in MMA right now, don't see them fighting on a FOX card, it's understandable.

FOX needs to promote the card as well, I heard promotion for the last couple of cards have been pretty brutal. FOX has ample opportunity to promote the card through the NFL and the MLB world series.

UFC is supposed to have enough fighters that they can throw on the Fox cards to generate interest without having to use Bones, Silva & GSP. Maybe once in a blue throw one of those dudes a bum on a Fox card (non-title) but other than that? Nah
