here's the ranking rules. at the bottom you can see who votes and who they voted for (i hadn't see who they voted for yet) but as I figured some of the new media in Brazil has guys like Dan Hardy at 10 for WW and BJ Penn 7 with Roger Gracie at 185.
Surprisingly it was a lot of Brazilian media that missed Jacare because, like I figured, they're new to the game and have only really seen the UFC.
// What criteria should I use when creating my rankings?
There is no single answer to this question, rather, the decision of where a fighter ranks is left entirely to your judgment. In general, there are two main strategies people use:
Rank fighters based on who is better. In this way, you should rank fighters in an order so that you would expect a fighter to be able to beat those fighters ranked below him most of the time. It is possible in this case that a fighter might still be ranked ahead of someone who just defeated him if you believe the loss was unjustified or unlikely to happen if given another shot.
Rank fighters based on who is more deserving of a title shot. In this method, more credence would be given to results, so that a fighter who wins will almost always be ranked ahead of a fighter he defeats because the victory gets him closer to the title shot.
Some panelists will weight recent performance more heavily while others will give credit to a fighter with a long history of success. Some will take into consideration a fighters performance in bouts prior to coming to the UFC while others will only judge based on UFC performance. You should not feel pressured to rank based on actual matchmaking, so that a fighter given a title shot must be ranked as the
#1 contender. Feel free to rank based on your own set of criteria; there are no wrong answers, as long as you can intelligently defend yourself.
/// How should I treat fighters under suspension or those who are injured?
As long as a fighter is still considered active by the UFC, they are eligible for ranking. Despite the fact that an injured or suspended fighter cannot fight at the moment, you should still rank them as high as you think is correct. If their suspension or injury pushes them further down the list in your mind, let your rankings reflect that.
/// Why cant I move the champion or interim champion?
The champion is considered to be outside the rankings, since the purpose of the rankings is to setup fighters beneath him to challenge for his belt. The interim champion is installed as the
#1 contender automatically, since he should always be considered to be next in line for a title shot by virtue of his title.
Do I have to complete rankings for all the divisions? Can I rank less than 10 fighters in a division?
Your submission will not be considered complete until you have provided rankings for all weight classes and the system will not allow you to save your results if you do not have ten fighters ranked.
/// How come (insert fighter name) is not available for me to rank?
Fighters are eligible for ranking only in the weight class designated by the UFC and only if currently considered active. A fighter changing weight classes may have already been moved to his new weight class, even if he has yet to fight at the new weight.
