these rankings still won't impact them from making "the fights the fan want to see".

The rankings are Joe Silva, MMAFighting.com, MMAJunkie.com and maybe three other media outlets with most people just going off recent memory

here's the ranking rules. at the bottom you can see who votes and who they voted for (i hadn't see who they voted for yet) but as I figured some of the new media in Brazil has guys like Dan Hardy at 10 for WW and BJ Penn 7 with Roger Gracie at 185.

Surprisingly it was a lot of Brazilian media that missed Jacare because, like I figured, they're new to the game and have only really seen the UFC.

// What criteria should I use when creating my rankings?

There is no single answer to this question, rather, the decision of where a fighter ranks is left entirely to your judgment. In general, there are two main strategies people use:

Rank fighters based on who is “better.” In this way, you should rank fighters in an order so that you would expect a fighter to be able to beat those fighters ranked below him most of the time. It is possible in this case that a fighter might still be ranked ahead of someone who just defeated him if you believe the loss was unjustified or unlikely to happen if given another shot.

Rank fighters based on who is more deserving of a title shot. In this method, more credence would be given to results, so that a fighter who wins will almost always be ranked ahead of a fighter he defeats because the victory gets him closer to the title shot.

Some panelists will weight recent performance more heavily while others will give credit to a fighter with a long history of success. Some will take into consideration a fighter’s performance in bouts prior to coming to the UFC while others will only judge based on UFC performance. You should not feel pressured to rank based on actual matchmaking, so that a fighter given a title shot must be ranked as the #1 contender. Feel free to rank based on your own set of criteria; there are no wrong answers, as long as you can intelligently defend yourself.

/// How should I treat fighters under suspension or those who are injured?

As long as a fighter is still considered active by the UFC, they are eligible for ranking. Despite the fact that an injured or suspended fighter cannot fight at the moment, you should still rank them as high as you think is correct. If their suspension or injury pushes them further down the list in your mind, let your rankings reflect that.

/// Why can’t I move the champion or interim champion?

The champion is considered to be outside the rankings, since the purpose of the rankings is to setup fighters beneath him to challenge for his belt. The interim champion is installed as the #1 contender automatically, since he should always be considered to be next in line for a title shot by virtue of his title.

Do I have to complete rankings for all the divisions? Can I rank less than 10 fighters in a division?
Your submission will not be considered complete until you have provided rankings for all weight classes and the system will not allow you to save your results if you do not have ten fighters ranked.

/// How come (insert fighter name) is not available for me to rank?

Fighters are eligible for ranking only in the weight class designated by the UFC and only if currently considered active. A fighter changing weight classes may have already been moved to his new weight class, even if he has yet to fight at the new weight.

And I'd much rather see Aldo/Pettis then Bendo/Pettis. People keep bringing up the last fight between Benson and Pettis but Ben has evolved a lot since that fight. I doubt he will stand with Pettis as much. Guida was able to control and neutralize Pettis on the ground and Henderson is a much more elite wrestler than clay. With Pettis/Aldo, you will see a stand up striking battle. Plus Pettis switching up stances will be effective when Aldo throws his leg kicks

Bendo hasn't evolved that much. He's gotten better, but for the most part he's still the same fighter. Also, even though he's gone through a few bumps on the road, Pettis has evolved as well. Bendo was 3 of 11 on takedown attempts in their last fight, so I don't think he's going to be taking down Pettis as easily as many people think.

I actually have Bendo winning this fight, but it could easily go either way.

Both potential fights are excellent [Bendo/Pettis and Aldo/Pettis], but like you, I'd prefer Aldo/Pettis.

With his bold callout, Pettis now finds himself in a strange, but enviable, position. White told the attending media at UFC 156's post-fight scrum that he was quite interested in a Aldo vs. Pettis title fight. From the outside, it appears that the onus may inevitably come down on Pettis to decide which champion he wishes to challenge.

Though if he had his wish, "Showtime" would fight both.

"Right now it's so fresh and brand new, that I'm just trying to clear two paths to get to both of these belts," explained Pettis. "I mean, they say, ‘You can fight Jose Aldo in three months, and then you get the winner of Henderson-Gilbert,' then I'm signing the contract today.

"That's up to the UFC. I'm not going to make any decisions or close any doors until they decide what they want to see. I put my opinion out there, I'm up for either one, and I guess it's just what would make sense for you guys now."

I guess it's on like Donkey Kong

Two of the most dynamic strikers in mixed martial arts will meet Aug. 3 when Anthony Pettis drops from lightweight to 145 pounds to challenge champion Jose Aldo for the Ultimate Fighting Championship's featherweight title.

USA TODAY Sports learned of the booking from UFC President Dana White on Monday.

"Two of the baddest dudes in the fight business are going to fight at 145 pounds," White said. "These guys are two of the most amazing, gravity-defying athletes in the sport. I am so pumped for this fight."

White says the company is seeking a venue for the yet-to-be-announced event and sites in Texas, Chicago, Las Vegas and Rio de Janeiro are under consideration. Aldo vs. Pettis is expected to headline the card.

Guess that means two of Zombie/Lama/Mendes fight to see who goes next?

But damn, FW is a deep class but they they're just clogging it up and removing more contenders with the title eliminators.

Crazy they made that fight. My gut is saying Pettis right now. He's just going to be too big. Even if he's a small 155 it's a different type of frame. I don't think Aldo will be able to hurt him.

Aldo has great takedowns. He may need to go to a ground game in this fight. His top control is HEAVY as fukk. One of the heaviest i've ever seen even though he doesn't go for subs.

I just think he'll have a tough time over 5 rounds.

Also.. I know Zombie is out until May with an injury. So don't expect him before that.

My gut feeling is they try to do this fight in Brazil. Aldo just had a baby and i bet his team asks to stay in Brazil.

Anthony Pettis was on the MMA Hour...said he doesn't cut weight, is on a diet all the time, and only had to lose 2lbs his last fight so making 145 would be no problem..he said hes tired of waiting for fights
ideally hed like to fight both aldo and henderson
This is the part I don't understand. Is it going to be a non-title fight? What if Pettis beats Aldo? How would he be able to go down and fight Benson with all the contenders waiting for him at 145. He can't just put that divison on hold while going for another belt.

The timeline doesn't match up either. Benson would have been ready to go by August or September at the latest, which is a month away from this fight. I'm sure Pettis will need 3 months to recover after Aldo, whereas Ben will probably take another fight in the meantime.

It's a foolish move by Pettis. He could have moved down anyway if he lost to Bendo.

that's even what Dana said at the post 156 scrum when asked if he makes it. He said he could always fight Bendo now and move down if he loses so he has the option of both.

I don't know why he's moving either. He'll get bigger money being a 155 champ. Plus it's a UFC rule now that you can't fight for both belts. You have to relinquish your title if you want to move divisions now. So this is pretty much Pettis leaving 155.

It was funny, on the mma hour yesterday, Helwani asked Pettis what the reaction was to the callout on his twitter and Pettis said he was surprised at how many of his fan actually didn't like it and he said the majority told him they'd rather he fights Bendo (or Gil). :manny:

It's an interesting match up for sure and I'm excited as a fan to watch this fight but I too think Pettis should have stayed at lightweight. It's the more prestigious division with better fights plus it seems inevitable that Aldo ends up there soon anyways.

the rankings are flawed but its the panelists you have to blame:snoop:
Munoz is ranked 5, yet has only had 1 fight in 2012 and he lost..Mendes is listed as the number 1 contender, yet Zombie was before his injury in the spring and lamas just beat koch
