From the get go, JDS tagged Cain about 3 times coming in. It's game of inches and milliseconds. If JDS had a shortened his punches and didn't swing so wide, he might've caught Cain more accurately.Wishful thinking, much?

Would have, could have, should have. He had 9 and a half rounds to land the right punch and couldn't. Cain is simply the superior fighter in every aspect.
Cain is the better fighter, but he's not the better striker. He did however, show the more effective striking in their fight.
And JDS wasn't serious when he said Cain hits like a girl, he was hyping up the fight with a bit of trash talk.

What makes a better striker?
More powerful and faster hands. Has a wide array of strikes in his arsenal, excellent body shots [body straight and jab], uppercut, left hook, and overhand right, all of which can finish his opponents. In general, JDS has a very good offensive skill-set, however, his striking defence isn't up to par and needs work.

Wider array of strikes? I mean, we saw the wheel kick against an aging Mark Hunt, but aside from that he's just got a dynamite right hand. Cain has a far superior way of mixing up his shots and throws way more kicks than JDS and does so more effectively. And he does this while not sacrificing the ever so important defense that is required to be at heavyweight.

I should've been more clear, in terms of punching, JDS has the more varied, quicker and powerful strikes. But, he does lack kicks, his offense primarily revolves around his hands.
Left hook which hurts Hunt
Left hook which hurts Gonzaga. Finishes the fight from there.
Left hook which drops Yvel and from there JDS gets the finish.
Overhand right that drops and badly hurts Cain.
Body jab against Hunt
Straight right that drops and badly hurts Mir.
Straight right that badly hurts Carwin.
Huge uppercut that KOs Werdum.
There are more instances of different techniques used, but I'm too lazy to look. 'All he has is a right' is wrong breh.
Overall, JDS is the better striker. However, when they face each other Cain has the more effective striking because he does a great job of mixing up his strikes with TDs and clinch work. He gives JDS zero room to work his striking.
