Actually it uses a fair amount of leverage once they hop over and make the "turn". You are using there own arm to choke them out. And this was after several takedowns and Silva was struggling. Re-watch the fight.

Of course...but Silva was nowhere near gassed. You go ahead and try slapping a sub having shytty sub defense on someone with a superior ground game and a good gas tank and see how far that gets you. :ld: He was better off maintaining a superior position and winning on points rather than fukk up trying a sub only to leave himself open once he committed.

Open for what on an arm triangle? On a guy he had top position on the entire time? :heh:

He doesnt understand. If you look at any point in any video you can say *well the way he stepped his leg there he was prime for a knee bar*

There are a lot of psychological factors in play here. What are the persons intentions at that time and how much do they believe in what they are thinking about doing. At the point where there may have been an arm triangle he may have been thinking about a strike or he may have thought, *if i go for that arm triangle he may get out of it or i might miss* Its hard to explain these types of things to people who arent involved in fighting.

Again you guys are trying to make it seem like an arm triangle is an elaborate move they people get reversed on all the time. He damn near in it and didn't move on, who knows why. That said let's not make it like you can name one time where a guy went for an arm triangle and ended in a bad position for it. The escape on that doesn't happen often in MMA to the detriment of the other fighter.

Do you not know what reversals, sweeps, and escapes are? I don't think you fully understand BJJ....nor the ground game. When you're against a fighter highly skilled in BJJ on the ground, you CANNOT afford to fukk up. Much like if you're banging with a K-1 level striker but only have decent standup yourself. In Jiu Jitsu, you flow with movements pretty much inch by inch, even making one minor positional mistake could cost you your position, and land you in a sub yourself.

Any move can be countered, but an arm triangle from top position has to be one of the safer bets in an MMA comp. Feel free to post evidence otherwise :beli:

This is why fighters come in with game plans, and stick to em. Fighting is very spontaneous, even with strategy, every single second you have a billion options that deviate from your gameplan, and you take a major gamble pursuing said options. Sure, you could go for the finish, you might even pull it off, but like you said, Chael could've been on some "well maybe it might cost me my position because this guy is no fukking joke on the ground, so I'll just keep my position and get points". Fighters learn from this once they study replays. It's just like if you're against a fighter superior in striking...you probably have instances in which you could probably drop them with whatever if you go full bore...doesn't mean that they won't take advantage of your lapse in judgement and destroy you with counters.

What, you mean like Chael Sonnen's fight record? If it was such a safe, guaranteed bet, why didn't he take it?

Hell, here's even a video showing one possible defense.

You think Silva doesn't know this, among the others? He's a fukking Noguiera black belt, while Chael's been subbed 4357804589048 times. Once again, you are underestimating Silva, and Overestimating Chael on the ground. Dude's a badass wrestler, but has shyt sub defense.

Only Chael can answer

Dawg if you think that move is being pulled off in an MMA bout :aicmon:

I'm only even engaging this because of the specific move we are talking about. I'm scratching my head that you can't acknowledge that this is a basic and fairly effective sub. Never mind the fact that it's Chael's sub defense in question, not his offense.

Oh, so Chael is now known for subbing people left and right just because he arm triangled Stann? :beli:

I'll just chalk it up at this, wrestling is one thing(of which he was beating Silva on), but going for subs would be Chael playing Silva's game.

Breh, I know arm triangles are simple.

The very act of applying one on Anderson Silva....especially when you're Chael fukking Sonnen is not. As I said, if it were really that simple, Chael would have went for it...but him knowing that Silva is a beast on the ground, I think he would kinda have known that fact more than you would...considering that he was kinda in there fighting him. As Crakface said, it's easy to talk about this and that could be easily done, but it's a whole nother thing to actually be in there doing it.

Using crackfaces logic we shouldnt discuss it period. Like I said its indisputable that he was in a position for that particular attempt. It wasn't a fluke and if he gets him on the ground again its very logical that.based on his style it will be there again. Will he pull it off :manny:

To argue that it was never a possibility when video evidence is there is looney. It's not an assault.on Anderson or his skills like you want to make it out to be. No matter how good you are in BJJ when you allow an opening on a move like that you are in trouble if someone takes it.
