How does Gus need to calm down? It was his fight to begin with so it stands to reason he'd want his shot back.

Gus had his opportunity, but got injured and now it's DC's turn. It's not like Gus was more deserving to begin with, an argument could've been made for both fighters deserving the next shot (if anything, Cormier was more deserving because Gus already had his shot at Jones and lost).

After news broke that Daniel Cormier will still be guaranteed his light heavyweight title shot against Jon Jones early next year, injured No. 1 contender Alexander Gustafsson took to Facebook to discuss how he felt about the UFC's decision.

I just heard the news that Jones is injured and the fight is rescheduled to January 3????
Until then, I will be more than ready, it was MY fight to begin with and I WANT the fight as the number 1 contender.
End of story!!

Well Gus. You did say u think Jones will beat DC, so trust ur pick esp now that Jon will have 4 more months to be ready. .. and if ur truly the #1 contender then you shouldn't have an issue with getting Rumble Johnson out of the way since he's emerging as a serious contender that you'll have to deal with anyway. Right? Just my view on it.

He is delusional if he thinks hes getting a shot now. He pulled out. Plus the hype and anticipation has already been built up for Jones/DC. Gus might as well fight Johnson now because he may not fight till Sept waiting for a shot (or longer if Cormier wins)

Why y'all mad at Gus angling to get his shot back? Jones vs. Gus I is a CLASSIC. If anything DC needs to beat some legit talent before stepping up to face the champ. Patrick Cummings? Dan Henderson? How does victories over a nobody and an over the hill Hendo warrant a title shot? IF everything was gravy, DC vs. Gus in Oct/Nov and the winner vs Bones on Super Bowl weekend.

I get it. He's undefeated, Olympic wrestler, trains with the HW Champ, has great hype, has had beef with Jones since his move to LHW. But his record doesn't warrant him a title shot IMO. Cormier dominated well known Heavyweights, which is impressive but no finishes of note (besides KO of Bigfoot which is :krs:). He has beaten NOBODY at Light Heavyweight. Was suppose to fight Rashad and got Cummings :pachaha: Get's 43 year old Hendo after winning 1 out his last 4 (Hendo got lucky for that W too) :stopitslime: I'm not saying he cant beat or wouldn't put up a good fight against Jones, but what has he done to deserve the shot? UFC creating this title shot off hype. The beef between Jones and Cormier, Cormier basically giving himsellf high fives on UFC Tonight/Any FS1-FOX card :snoop: UFC is known for this kinda hypocrisy though, where Fighter A has to win 6-7 fights in a row to be given his shot compared to Fighter B who is more popular, gets favorable match ups against lesser talent on his way to the title. All I want to see is DC face some LEGIT LHW talent before getting a crack at the throne.

Stopped reading here, just what he did in strikeforce alone is enough to warrant a shot against jones, cuz it would have been enough for him to fight for either the sf or ufc hw title.

According to Jackson, the injury occurred while Jones was defending a takedown from UFC heavyweight talent Alistair Overeem during wrestling practice.

“It’s part of the game, it wasn’t like ... somebody went for a flying kick and dislocated [something]. Somebody went for a takedown, [Jones] stepped the wrong way, twisted the wrong way and down he went. He was fighting it, and he just twisted it. And then it just popped,” Jackson said.

Alistair’s maybe 240, Jon’s 220. It’s not like he was working with a giant moose. It was just one of those things."

Agreed. Gus's fight with Jones was an instant classic for sure and I want to see them get in there again (I think Gus missed his window to beat Jones personally, he had the element of surprise on his side the first time)

folks are downplaying DC for beating old man Hendo and Cummins but overlooking Gus beating Shogun that the "old man" defeated twice once by KO'ing? A visibly out of shape Thiago Silva who was a moving target in that fight? Jimi Manawa? Neither of them have had to beat relevant "killers" per say at 205

I like the idea if DC v Gus to set shyt straight in the meanwhile but it eliminates a money title fight which is stupid from a business standpoint.

I stand by what I said tho, Gus actually has a chance to make his star even brighter, get Rumble out the way IF he can, or wait. .. it's a long way off but he's pretty sure to get the next shot at the winner. Unless he's worried DC will be the one to put Bones down then let Jones beat DC since he said he thinks that's what will happen, then call him out like Chuck did to Tito. Beat the "tough" guys so you have no choice but fight me. Yeah he's got a legit gripe that it was his fight originally but it was the UFC changed the opponent instead of rescheduling it. So @jackswstd If the tables were turned I'd feel the same way at DC if the fight was swapped due to injury instead of rescheduled, the fight is inevitable between he and Jones tho because there's too much money on the table for it.
