in todays climate weidman/jones is just on the principle jones is jones and weidman record shows his last 3 wins are andersonx2 and machida

I would prefer jones vs cain if anything. The one fight to make was jones/Silva when they cleaned their division but thats now over. All the divisions have contenders now so there is no big money fight to make

there is no "big money" fight in mma in general, everyone has cormier/jones doing a milli and its like unless they play the inflate game like ufc168 :whoa:

No. I never bought into GSP/Silva. I mean you would do big money from it but I don't see it being competive like Jones/Silva, plus that would dwarf GSP/Silva in terms of draw even if you had a 177 type undercard.

Jones/Silva wouldn't have been competitive either. Jones would've killed Silva.

I disagree. Silva is better then Jones everywhere outside wrestling. And we see that Silva can attack off his back and Jones having those long limbs is prone to subs. I would favor Jones in a bout but a motivated, focused, Silva would not have been killed. It would definitely been more competitive then Silva/GSP.

fukk outta here. If machida vs jones was competitive then silva vs jones would damn sure be. Silva KOs people with the shots machida landed on Jones plus his reach is longer.

Machida has better take down defense than Silva. Makes the fight entirely different. That fight wasn't very competitive anyway. Machida landed 1 good punch. As soon as Jon decided to take down Machida he did and the fight was over shortly after.

GSP/Silva would have been more competitive than Jones/Silva. Jones beats Anderson 8/10 times. He's bigger, stronger, and (of course) has much better wrestling. Anderson lost to Weidman twice, Jones is a better fighter than Weidman and is bigger/stronger than him as well. Jones is a very bad match-up for Anderson.

I don't know why so many people "compare" the two.

It's a mis-match from so many standpoints, and that's no disrespect to Anderson Silva, one of the greatest ever.

Not only is JBJ bigger and stronger as you mentioned, he is also, in my opinion, a more skilled striker, equally as fast if not faster, and a much better wrestler.

And he's beaten a guy that beat Anderson twice.

What else is there to question?

The difference in size between GSP/Silva is greater then Jones/Silva.

Machida/Jones was competitive for a single round. After that, it was a one-sided fight. Machida matches up pretty well with Jones, Anderson does not. The areas where Silva is at a significant disadvantage against Jones (wrestling & strength), Machida does well in.
