The Official Netflix Marvel's "Iron Fist" Thread

I really dont have any problem with anyone who takes that stance.

My only question to those people are to tell us "who are the top 10 Asian American actors" out there in the game right now who could fill this role? Tell us what movies or shows did they kill. Tell us could said actor easily be put in a high profiled; Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, K. Reeves, Brad Pit, etc styled movie and kill it?

Hell since he's free, if Marvel wouldve put Glenn from TWD as Danny Rand would cats be like "oh thats great casting"?

Also, isnt this Danny Rand?

ign just shyt on Finn Jones for being bland and not very convincing with his martial arts, especially compared to J. Henwick who is playing Colleen Wing.

edit: Just read the polygon review, while it is overall negative they harp more specifically on particular scenes being ridiculous like Danny schooling Asian Colleen in her own dojo. And they to shyt on Finn Jones but give props to Carrie-Ann Moss, Rosario Dawson and Jessica Henwick.

Seems critics just don't like Finn Jones.

For the first question: You make a star. You don't need to get a top actor at this point because the brand sells itself and you turn someone into a star.

For your second question, context matters. There's a reason Danny Rand was creating as a white guy during that period and it had everything to do with them being about creating a main character who wasn't a white male while at the same time wanting to hop on the Bruce Lee train. So they made Danny their version of Kung Fu, the white guy who's taught by asians and masters martial arts better than them, because that's what the politics and societal norms at the time told them they had to do. It's possible to do something different now and get away from the admittedly touchy racial issues of the mid 70s. There's a reason Neal Adams created Jon Stewart and it wasn't just because he thought it'd be fun. He wanted to make a statement.

That said, I'm not against what they did with making Danny a white guy. But I understand those who feel like it wasn't the right move

But the talent gotta be there. This is big time now..... too much money, rep, and time has been put into this.... Leob and etc cant just walk into some Chinese food joint, go into the kitchen and be like "hey you, you're our next guy for this roll" somebody has to be a prospect kinda out there.

Just like pretty much all the cats so far thats gotten their roles.

But I was more or less challenging the people complaining. Why instead of complaining saying "bu bu bu but he should be Asian" why aint they being more proactive with "He should be Asian and _______ would make a great Danny Rand?"

I aint trynna hear that shyt wont work, cuz I feel it worked for Chadwick to become Black Panther. MANY folks was pulling for him and speaking his name out and I feel the proper people listened.... same for the director.

I feel like if no one wouldve ever made any noise about Chadwick.... I dont think he would be BP right now. He's and excellent example for me of the voices speaking and were answered

That's your assumption tho. And of course there's no way to prove it wrong or right so

But it doesn't fall on the fans to be talent scouts and casting directors. Asia has a whole movie industry on their own and Hollywood companies have enough reach to get over there and audition anyone they want at the drop of a dime. It's not on us to do the job for them, it's on them to put in the legwork

Breh, Chadwick had already been in 42 and the james brown biopic. He was making a name for himself so lets not completely forget the man hustled his ass off too.

And they aren't always swayed by social media campaigns for characters. All of social media wanted Rhonda Rousey to be captain marvel. Rhonda even joined in. They went with Brie Larson. And that's not even to say they didn't consider Rhonda (maybe they did maybe they didn't) but you always pick who's best for the role. So maybe the social media campaign along with Chadwick just busting his ass helped get his foot in the door but if he didn't fit, they would've gone elsewhere which is what they should do.

The point is that the very basis of Iron Fist is based upon egregious cultural appropriation. NOBODY with any common sense wants to see a white boy being the master of an ancient Asian martial arts technique in 2017. Marvel had a chance to address and right this wrong by casting an Asian actor, thereby adding a fresh dose of diversity amongst the Defenders lineup. Instead they chose to go by the source material.... and are rightfully being called to task for it

They didn't need to make Danny Rand Asian, they just needed to make Steel Serpent a main character and build the show around him and Danny Rand coming to New York.

Steel Serpent is the character who calls out Danny Rand on being a White Boy who has come to his land and stolen power that's not meant for him. Along with misusing his role. In the original story Danny Rand only came back to kill his parents killers and became The Iron Fist out of revenge not due to wanting to be a "savior" or hero.
