There has been way beyond 5 quality AAA games this generation. The problem with this gen is the number of games that provide gameplay that was not possible before. Games were either cross gen or only provided prettier graphics when they were exclusive to this gen with only some providing gameplay that was not possible before which was disappointing. Besides that, there are plenty of AA and AAA games to play with amazing variety.

That’s so overstated. There wasn’t some huge descrpancy between 7th and 8th gen mechanics. Not having backwards compatibility last gen painted a false narrative. The biggest difference between 7th and 8th gen just from Sony perspective is their studios putting out successful single player games.

There’s nothing the ps4 was doing under the hood that was dramatically different from ps3

What’s also funny is I remember there being so much talk of the SSD speeds being some early launch bs and that we were gonna start getting load times again and no more 60fps modes by mid gen andd that was a lie and now everyone takes that instant loading shyt for granted.

We’re not gonna get a 16 bit to 32 bit to ps2 jump again, it’s just not feasible unless people want to wait 7+ years for everyone AAA game.

That’s why the big graphical jumps outside decima are gonna be ND and GTA games

Yeah, that's what I mean. You got people complaining about how long GTA 6 is taking, or how there aren't any games hitting like GTA 5, while completely overlooking the fact that they have purposefully played little else since then, despite there being a wide range of great to classic games that have come out since. At some point, if you find that you don't like anything that's out, you gotta consider that it could be as much about your own tastes changing or being very specific as it could be about what's available.



I think a lot of that has less to do with studios not trying, and more to do with development cycles being much longer, and publishers being more risk averse than ever. If you can make a game that just runs and plays better on specific SKUs for the same cost, and potentially double your revenue, unfortunately, you're asking for that from your developers. I think we're about to enter a couple of year long sweet spot where we FINALLY see developers making the most of the generation, but we're likely about to enter the cycle again in the next three or four years once the next console cycle rolls out.

That's where ps studios plays a role. They will be one of the only developers that will try to discover ways to provide gameplay that was not possible before by using the technology available. Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart along with some others titles were the only games that attempted to provide next gen gameplay. Those games show that it is very possible to provide gameplay that was not possible before. Some 3rd party developers will try to push the ps5 the rest of this gen and with cross gen next gen, and the rest will concentrate on providing the same gameplay with prettier graphics, especially when doing so saves costs with the ps5 as the base console. There will be a significant cpu upgrade next gen along with some other upgrades providing another opportunity to provide next gen gameplay next gen, especially with ps studios. There are going to be some games on the ps4, ps5, and ps6 though.

Yep, this is why first party exclusive software is good.

Astro bot made good use of the dualsense

Spider-man 2 increased movement and loading times

Yotei the flashback load times, increased LoD

Rift apart and demon’s souls, the load times and level transitions

Horizon Burning Shores had a bunch of new stuff added to it

It will be interesting to see what ND does

Im not really into gaming as much now tbh. Didnt even know the pro released last year. Just thought of upgrading for bf6 and gta 7 but fuk the price tag.
