This is the common definition but not the official way recession is declared in our economy.

The pain that a recession brings is a drop in demand which means business stop growing and some business close their doors….which leads to high unemployment which turns into foreclosures and bankruptcies

People in this thread claiming it’s been feeling like a recession aren’t making any sense

Like I said, wait till the fiscal year starts...I will keep upping this thread when mass layoffs start and unemployment rises

People are leaving jobs for other jobs, they’re not dropping out of the workforce

I was talking about demand of goods.

None of what you described are elements of a recession

High inflation doesn’t mean recession it actually means the opposite.

Crime and homelessness are not up due to the economy

I’m not from Canada :mjlol:

Crime and homelessness are definitely effects of a recession.

And yea, you definitely from Canada. Only a Canadian dikkeats Drake the way you do. Canadians and gay nikkas. You're possibly both.

The rise in crime and (homelessness?) since 2020 not because of a recession

Yes high unemployment will most likely lead to a rise in crime and homelessness but we don’t have high unemployment we have the total opposite

Unemployment being so low is also one of the reason inflation continues to soar

It’s coming. My development/construction contract pipeline has changed dramatically from the boom of 2018-2021 so I can see the slowdown in private spending happening at a local level.

I think the unemployment follows next year and we’ll start hearing about it around the holidays.

You're deliberately playing dunce...or maybe you just dunce. I said "FELT". nikkas in this country been feeling fukked up for a minute now. Whether the high crime and homelessness were caused by a textbook definition of recession or not, it still felt like a recession. I never said we WAS in a recession. I said it FELT like a recession anyways. Don't matter if we have high employment rates, people are fukked up out here. Don't see why you arguing that, Canadian.

Did your projects usually involve office buildings?

I'm just wondering if remote work effected any of that

All commercial construction in the region - offices to townhomes to retail. If it wasn’t funded last year it’s probably on hold.

Government projects are still going strong.

Some of its driven by material shortages/delays.

We’re in a feedback loop.

But maybe the infrastructure bill $ hits next year and saves us.
