Djokovic was almost in tears on the change over because he knew the crowd made med choke that game away

He had been rooted against the whole tournament and finally felt the love

It was the realization that they were partially rooting against him just to see some more competitive matches and entertainment that was enlightening to him

you are not thinking things through.

1. laylah was clearly upset and was playing the better of the two .. likely to affect her game more.
2. emma started the match better (2-0) and the second set showing perhaps that she has an advantage over laylah when warming up.
3. stakes were higher for laylah so mental effects likely greater. should emma lose the match would continue. should laylah lose the match would end.
4. laylah was in the ascendancy at the point of disturbance. breaking the direction of the game for both players benefits the subordinate player more - see time wasting and toilet break abuse discussions in tennis.
5. it's like a 10 second count in boxing. it gives the one falling behind time to sort their head out. it disrupts both boxers but the advantage is comparatively less for the one who is in the ascendancy at that point in time.

This is all fine and dandy but if you've ever played tennis before you know that play is dictated by the servers pace and when the server doesnt have control over their own pace then things can get tricky. People even hate having lets to have a third serve (or more) because it is abnormal. Serving is about rhythm, period. Look at what happened to Medvedev when the fans disrupted his rhythm for example. Pat McEnroe made the comment that he should just serve as he has been doing and to stop waiting for the crowd. Why? Because rhythm and pacing is more important than solitude with serving.

That whole blood timeout was a wash. Neither were positively impacted. It is what it is
