you are not thinking things through.
1. laylah was clearly upset and was playing the better of the two .. likely to affect her game more.
2. emma started the match better (2-0) and the second set showing perhaps that she has an advantage over laylah when warming up.
3. stakes were higher for laylah so mental effects likely greater. should emma lose the match would continue. should laylah lose the match would end.
4. laylah was in the ascendancy at the point of disturbance. breaking the direction of the game for both players benefits the subordinate player more - see time wasting and toilet break abuse discussions in tennis.
5. it's like a 10 second count in boxing. it gives the one falling behind time to sort their head out. it disrupts both boxers but the advantage is comparatively less for the one who is in the ascendancy at that point in time.
