Hmm, just saying but maybe it is because crowds love underdogs ?
Serena gets the same treatment Nadal gets at the French for example because he's the huge favorite (well not til this year). Federer being the exception because he's the only player in the world who's at home everywhere.
Let's not forget that the case of Nadal and his "inflated" GS titles number is the same as Sampras with Wimby (7/14), Emerson and the Aussie (6/12), Connors and the USO (5/8), Borg and the French (6/11) and even Novak with the Aussie (5/8). The Nadal case is not rare at all and there are greats who just are too good on some surface in the era they play.
