Charlie split with JCF :leon:

Apparently he’s still keeping the whole team intact, just without Ferraro lol :lupe:

Just saw a news report that Juan Carlos Ferrero was on a "year to year contract that renewed every November/December". That is absolutely crazy that a coach of his stature and previous elite pro experience being treated like some sort of a rental

Alcaraz Snr runs the show.

Rolling year contract isnt that crazy. Individual sports coaches are more independent contractors. So they dont have the guarantees like Team sports coaches would do.

You don't think it was unwise for Carlos to drop JCF as a coach 4 weeks before the Australian Open?

It depends on how much JCF actually did. Its only JCF who has lost his job the rest of the team is still there. So its not like its a complete overhaul. The assistant/second coach who filled in for JCF before can handle the reigns till they either promote him hire a new coach or work alongside a short term consultant like Ferrer or Moya till after the AO.

Lots of information in this about the relationship between Alcaraz JCF and the rest of the Alcaraz family and how things have changed.

But regarding who will coach Alcaraz in the short term post JCF.

With the possibility of Ferrero leaving his position, Samuel López began to take on a more prominent role, accompanying the player to more and more tournaments. He was also the architect of the change in Alcaraz’s serve, a shot that has clearly improved today.

Yeah what I'm getting from the info is that it was a power dynamic and didn't vibe anymore with JCF being a disciplinarian and Carlos Alcaraz is the boss now
Cool it just comes off as a "Well I'm already at the mountaintop, I don't need to learn anymore"

Do we know anything about this assistant coach and his pedigree?
