They just shyt on a whole lot of people with this move. Small businesses and startups. They don't have the supply to meet demand or even plan on having enough store fronts. This basically will send a lot of people back to the "streets" to cop. Not a lot of changes were made in terms of criminal law either.
Also what happens to all those weed companies that had stocks up waiting on legalization?
They just killed a whole bunch of businesses opportunities and they would definitely have made more taxing private store fronts simply because they won't be able to cover the same customer base. This shyt is a joke, I'm glad I don't care about smoking anymore...

Finally, weed companies will have the Ontario Cannabis Board as a customer, like LCBO purchases from alcohol makers...
Ordering online doesn't beat the convenience of same day pick up. So if I want to smoke on a whim I have to be near 1 of only 40 physical lcbo locations to do a pick up for the first year. That doesn't nearly cover the whole provinceYou're not aware that you'll be able to order weed online..

Yeah weed dealers are not going anywhere lol. This is a fail. I'm not one of those guys that's sits on ounces of bud. There are plenty of people like me who smoke very casually too.
We're not even getting into edibles and all the other side products that they will drag their feet introducing for another year or so. Most real medicinal users are using all types of extracts that will be covered in red tape before they get approval to the market. Also there are already plenty of online dispensaries operating right now and most people prefer the store fronts

Demand for Ontario weed will likely pick up after dispensaries are pushed underground. Expansion after the initial 150 stores is inevitable.
Moreover, some people like buying weed in bulk and we'll use it over a period of time. Online purchasing will likely be a part of that process.
I don't see the black market going away any time soon but seeing the success of legal cannabis in states like Colorado leads me to believe that this endeavour won't fail, as much as you may want it to

Legal cannabis in Colorado was swiftly implemented and successful because it wasn't steeped in red tape. They didn't take edibles and other side products off the table for evaluation.
Legalization went thru in less than 2-3 years like here
In 6 months they were sending out rebates because they got so much tax money.
The government also doesn't run outlets
If you talk to a lot of dispensary workers currently there are a shyt load of people that come in daily for small amounts. Pre rolled joints. Some cookie (prior to ban) or even just a gram of weed. These customers are not going to wait for shipments they are casuals. That's like half their foot traffic trust me. Most dispensaries have daily specials for these folks.
Note that they are starting with 40 stores, I guarantee you their expansion will be slow as usual. None of these situations existed in Colorado. You wanna know how they were sending out tax rebates in 6 months, it's not from 40 fukking sites with no variety of product just bud.

All fair points.
In time, the Ontario govt will take the best practices of places like Colorado. Largely because they haven't got a choice. The scheme will make money (not as much as they'd like) and then they'll adapt to cater to consumer needs better to make an even larger revenue.
I think my initial point should be noted. Due to wealth disparities, these private weed sellers are largely not the type of people who'd be prosecuted for possession and trafficking offences. I think it's unfair that monied persons get to profit most of off the dismantling of the war on drugs on the cannabis front. With publicly distributed marijuana, at least the dividends are spread with more equity and racialized persons have a greater chance at employment
