If the Dreamcast sold a lot it would be around longer, so selling a lot of systems does matter

Trying to determine who won a gen based on how much money they made is like trying to determine who won a football game based on the player's salaries. That's not how it works. PS2 is sitting at 152 mill, it's the best selling console of all time. How much money they did or didn't make is another topic entirely.
It's funny people say "X console is outselling Y console!" because they want X to win....then when Y starts pulling ahead it's "nah, let's focus on who made more money". Stop moving the goal post.

Look at the best selling consoles of all time. Where does "who made more money" come into the equation? When has it ever come into the equation in this discussion? Since the 80s it's been X outsold Y, therefore X won that gen.
All this other extra shyt was never even a factor. Nobody was sitting around talking about "well, the SNES outsold the Genesis, but who made more money though?".
