A spokesperson for the Tea app, which aims to be a place for women to “safely talk about men,” confirmed it was hacked.
The company “estimates that 72,000 images, including 13,000 verification photos and images of government IDs, were accessed”

More details: The company says no emails or phone numbers were accessed and the breach only affects users who signed up before Feb. 2024
Tea, an app for women to safely talk about men they date, has been breached, user IDs exposed

@TheTrentHarvey
They claim it was “from 2 years ago” but that doesn’t make them any less screwed. Tell that to the 72k users.

@blockxs
Hope they change their security.

@LucaGuadagnegro

@ladidaix
Yeh this is NOT good

Vibe coding gone wrong. You always need a person who actually understands the tech because safety stuff like this you cannot play around with. This can put so many women in danger who were only trying to protect themselves and other women

@Saqib_hmed

This situation is a psyop by a Russian tech company, a lot of the discussion is curated content. You didn't find this story on your own free will

@EsiGabby
If people held abusive people accountable apps like these would’ve never been made I said what I said. Bc this was the purpose of it. At least the idea of it maybe not their app which is part of the damn problem. Class action loading

@kittylopher
That’s what yall getting for exposing everyone’s tea on there and being messy. Hopefully yall learn ya lesson and won’t do this again.

@JuneBugg81925
I tried to sign up the other day. When it asked for photo verification, I declined to continue. Thank gosh.
24/37
@SuperNovaBabee
How convenient that as soon as this app launches, it’s hacked and all the users information is stolen. And unless it’s for Uber/Lyft, why are apps asking for pictures of people’s government IDs anyway?
25/37
@Alvin1k_
Just assumed it was secure lol
26/37
@weluvneesh
As an engineer, I don’t understand why they stored verification photos anyway. They could’ve processed, validated, and disposed quite quickly actually. There’s no need to hold on to information you don’t truly need.

Yeah this is why I hate anything that requires ID verification

@juicedald123
Government id's? Government id's and social media should never be in the same sentence unless it's "Don't use your GID on social media platforms because NATSEC."
