How about Wilt averaging a triple-double in the 1967 Eastern Finals where they eliminated the 8-time defending champion Celtics?

Or how about Wilt's defensive presence in the Finals? His defensive plays in the closing moments of Games 1 and 6 were crucial

Wilt had already proved by that point that he could score. He was willing to sacrifice his stats if it meant team success.


In the 1972 playoffs, Wilt was clearly the best player on the team. The entire team was built around his ability to dominate the paint on defense, fire quick outlet passes, set screens on offense, etc.

In the clinching Finals game, he had 24 points, 29 rebounds and 10 blocks PLAYING WITH A BROKEN WRIST




If his playoff scoring numbers were higher, you people would be whining about him selfishly putting his stats above team success

1. Teams playing fewer playoff games during Wilt's career (fewer rounds)

2. The majority of Wilt's playoff games being played late in his career when he had changed his role from a big-time scorer to a defensive anchor

I noticed this a while ago when I was looking at some of Wilt's highlights and stats. And as much as I say he would still be a dominant player in this era, his numbers dipping like that every playoff has to be held against him. In his 50 ppg season he averaged 40 shot a game in the regular season and in the playoffs he was down to about 29. I don't know if the defense adjusted during the playoffs and did he just shun the spotlight. But if the answer is the defense adjusted to him, then why couldn't they do it during the regular season. This is the one thing against Wilt that I don't think you can argue against. His critics said he had problems in the playoffs and their are numbers to back this up. And that 2-4 Finals record doesn't help either.

In 1962, Wilt's overall regular season average was 50 ppg. But his regular season average against the Celtics (the team with the best personnel to contain him) was only 38 ppg

You gotta read the Book Of Basketball. Simmons exposed the fukk out of Wilt. This nikka Wilt would not play defense when he had 5 fouls so he could keep his streak of never being fouled out in a game ever. Plus none of the legends respected him either. Wilt was great, and would still be a great player, but his stats are definitely inflated.
