Brandin Cooks is the real deal But Cooks is more than a burner. He has the makings of a true #1 wide receiver in the same mold as Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Antonio Brown. On this play, Cooks made a tough catch in traffic before accelerating to the open field and picking up extra yardage in space. He has also shown surprising physicality from a smaller receiver, catching this pass from Drew Brees in double coverage when he knew he would get hit by the Saints’ stingy secondary.
Marcus Ball will be the player Roman Harper was supposed to be
A linebacker for the Canadian Football League’s Toronto Argonauts, Ball is playing a similar role at safety for the Saints by lining up within eight yards of the line of scrimmage to cover the slot and middle of the field while spying the quarterback and shutting down plays around the edge. He is perfectly suited to this role from his CFL experience and should continue to be a playmaker there for the Saints as preseason goes on.
The Saints’ rushing attack is ready to party like it’s 2009 (or 2011)
Travaris Cadet was very impressive. He is currently fourth on the Saints’ depth chart but looks to have assumed Darren Sproles’ role as the shifty “speed back” Mark Ingram displayed similar ability to find the open gap in the defense, commit to it, and punch through several tacklers to score a short-yardage touchdown.
