No c00n shyt but this year no black movie or actor deserved a nom...maybe Straight outta Compton but that's it really. Tired of this race shyt,I just care about the good movies and Leonardo Dicaprio winning.
No way should Tom Hardy have a nom for The revenant and Idris just isn't getting one for Beasts of no nation
Hollywood has a messed up system and ultimately people have gotten tired of it
Straight outta Compton and Creed are just the more evident snubs this year

Gonna be watching, mainly because I expect another great opening monologue by Chris Rock.

Also people are gonna OD on the memes/jokes if Leo somehow doesn't win :dead:

Revenant was dope. Beasts of Non Nation is on par, maybe even a better movie. Attah/Elba are just as good in their roles as Leo and Hardy. :yeshrug:

Idris, Michael B. Jordan, Ryan Coogler for Creed. Creed and definitely straight outta compton. But with two of those movies, it stems from people not seeing the movies, at least anecdotally. I've read numerous accounts of voters saying they didn't see straight outta compton, and the academy has a netflix bias that will be nipped in the bud when you get younger voters in. The old guard feels like Netflix is a threat to them the same way the generation before them felt like tv was a threat to them

I actually think less people saw Spotlight than Beasts of no nation but somehow it still go the nominations
this year was wild though I'm surprised Mad Max was getting props even though I guess a lot of the old academy voters remember the original trilogy

The academy isn't nominating a Netflix movie when its Netflix that is stealing their money in the theaters and TV. It will be a while before the mainstream accepts Netflix movies as contenders.

Beast of no Nation>Spotlight though. Spotlight was "good" in the traditional fall release Oscar bait type of way but, that is also what made it forgettable. Just so typical..

Don't be like that. Jordan wasn't even #2 best performance in that movie, let alone a best actor nom. Coogler made above average boxing movie and its not even a top 10 boxing movie of all time. If the 2nd half of SoC had not fallen of a cliff it would've gotten a nom.

Haven't seen Beasts.

I think a lot of people, including you didn't "get" Jordan's performance. There was something old school about it that some appreciated and others didn't. The more you watch the movie the more you realized how nuanced it was.

Movie is one of the highest rated boxing films in years. Might not have been for you.

The 3rd act is where SOC fell off. But it still was par with some of the movies nominated.
