The academy isn't nominating a Netflix movie when its Netflix that is stealing their money in the theaters and TV. It will be a while before the mainstream accepts Netflix movies as contenders.

Beast of no Nation>Spotlight though. Spotlight was "good" in the traditional fall release Oscar bait type of way but, that is also what made it forgettable. Just so typical..

Idris, Michael B. Jordan, Ryan Coogler for Creed. Creed and definitely straight outta compton. But with two of those movies, it stems from people not seeing the movies, at least anecdotally. I've read numerous accounts of voters saying they didn't see straight outta compton, and the academy has a netflix bias that will be nipped in the bud when you get younger voters in. The old guard feels like Netflix is a threat to them the same way the generation before them felt like tv was a threat to them
People saw Creed as a general money grosser flick, not an awards contender at first. Michael should have been nominated though. Idris too, but like you said that's more anti netflix than anything.

I think a lot of people, including you didn't "get" Jordan's performance. There was something old school about it that some appreciated and others didn't. The more you watch the movie the more you realized how nuanced it was..

Maybe. I'm not hating on Jordan, I really like him but that role didn't have enough meat on the bone for a nuanced performance imo. I also think it doesn't work on its own because its a 7th movie in a franchise thats older then most of the people on this forum and that comes with alot of built in baggage, both good and bad. If this was someones first Rocky flick I can't imagine the emotional moments would hit as hard or if they'd registered at all and I think its unfair to reward a film with acclaim when the story is still clinging to characters and stories that it didn't build by itself

No c00n shyt but this year no black movie or actor deserved a nom...maybe Straight outta Compton but that's it really. Tired of this race shyt,I just care about the good movies and Leonardo Dicaprio winning.

So tell me how the fukk The Martian gets nominated in multiple categories (like best actor, best picture, etc.) and Creed doesn't.

Prediction

Will Poulter (The Revenant/Maze Runner) will be a villain in major movie franchise one day.
Strictly because of his eyebrows
