wait what?
that's just for the salary cap. the guys still get the money.
that guy has no idea how nfl contracts work.
in fact, he doenst even seem to understand how a basic contract works.
nikka even HIGHLIGHTED the "for salary cap purposes" part of his lil proof post...yet seems to have no idea what that means.
"fanene should pay back his signing bonus...cause for salary cap purposes the amount is prorated over the length of the contract, even tho the bonus is paid in full up front" what the hell does that even mean? dude musta forgot Steven Nash still gettin his 10 mil this year even tho he isnt going to play 1 game.

what you're talking about has to do with the rules of the salary cap and is completely irrelevant in this caseYeah "for salary cap purposes" they pay you upfront for games you have yet to play in the signing bonus so your cap hit won't be as high in the upcoming years. Nice try tho.
Lol at bringing up Steve Nash as if NFL and NBA contracts work the same. I think you're the one that knows nothing about how NFL contracts work.
Go debate your Janitor Uncle.

Not even close. All the talk is how great of an owner kraft is "he's the best in the league" bullshyt. He trying to skip out on paying a 3 mil signing bonus.

guaranteed money is guaranteed money. the signing bonus in the nfl is guaranteed money. full nba contracts are guaranteed money. there is no difference between the two.
exactly, he was paid upfront for games he has not played. what does that have to do with anything associated with this thread?
even my "janitor uncle" belongs to a union and signed a contract with his employer. if he gets injured on the job, he will still get paid whether or not he ever mops another floor again. maybe you should get some tips from him on how contracts work.
i know you're an at-will employee at your min wage job so a lot of this stuff isnt directly relevant to you, therefore i dont really fault you for not knowing what you're talking about. hopefully this will make more sense: when your mom put that $55 on your prepaid boost mobile phone...they keep the $55 whether you actually call your boyfriend or not during that month. you dont get your money back because you didnt end up using their service.

It would be one thing if they wanted to get Fanene's signing bonus to somehow not count against the cap. The league is cutthroat about getting the smallest advantage, so that's not really a big deal.
What the patriots are doing is trying to make a legal argument that Fanene owes them $3.5 million dollars, which is scummy as fukk considering he was injured while he was clearly under contract with them.
For salary cap considerations, the signing bonus amount is divided by the number of years of the contract and prorated equally for each year.
So, if a player signed a 5 year contract with a signing bonus of $10 million, $2 million of the bonus is applied to the salary cap for each year, even though he got the money in year 1.
If the player is cut before the contract expires, the remaining years of the signing bonus hit the salary cap for the upcoming season. So, if the player with the 5 year contract and $10 million signing bonus was cut after 3 years, the remaining $4 million of the bonus would be counted against the salary cap the next season.
Then again my question is HOW MANY GAMES DID HE PLAY!?!? and Johnathan Fanene was NOT that enticing to be given a $3.8 Million signing bonus just for his signature to play for the Patriots. I don't really expect you to understand all this because I can see the hidden agenda of you coli nikkaz but its funny you taking a NFLPA grievance and state it as facts.
