i switched to a 7870 since its apparently better than the 660, and took out the ssd to bring it down to with shipping and tax 899.11 off newegg.ca

- if you can trash the dvd drive (do people still use discs?)

it's crazy but in this day and age who needs a dvd drive? damn....i feel old saying this.
i honestly havent installed my dvd drive, but sometimes i could use it to rip physical to digital

I am interested in getting involved in web design so I am looking into building a desktop PC as I currently have a Macbook. I've never built a PC before so I wanted some advice from you guys. Sorry for being an idiot but I have been mostly a Mac user for the last 15 years. I will not be using the computer for gaming.
I want a RAID 1 hard drive array for redundancy. Is it worth having a separate drive to boot from so if I have virus/malware problems I can just wipe the drive? Will integrated graphics handle high def video no problem? What version of windows should I run? How many watts should my PSU be? Do I need to buy additional cabling?
I was going to toss a build together but I am so clueless and there is such a huge variety of parts out there I was wondering if anyone would mind piecing something together for me. Is a $500 limit not including monitor realistic?
